Assessing the talent: Talented ATH plays QB and S.

Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 20%. We are first to offer and he likes us according to Scout Article. Plays for Centennial High School in Corona, CA (Southern CA). We have recruited this school hard...including Martinez, we have offered DT William Sutton, OL Gavin Pascarella, and LB Vontaze Burfict (who is a verbal to USC).

Hell of an athlete. Thing that will be interesting is if he really tears it up this year teams could give him the bums-rush as a qb? He is obviously willing to play safety since he committed here but I still wonder if he'd be tempted away.

I don't like this commitment at this point. Maybe later in the process but lets try to get some bigger guys in first.

So almost wasn't eligible his senior year due to transfer rules, but since moving he looks to be OK:

The Huskies already are relying on another top transfer, Taylor Martinez from San Bernardino Cajon. He's slated to take over at quarterback for Matt Scott. Martinez was originally declared ineligible by the Southern Section when his hardship appeal was denied, but he has since moved into the Centennial district, making him eligible, according to Coach Matt Logan.

This is his 3rd school, but he did not play football as a sophomore and there may have been some other issues with his dad and the previous school. :dunno

Anyway, his new school is very highly ranked:

Here are Cal-Hi Sports' rankings:

SectionSports.com ranks the Top-25 in the Southern Section, based on our analysis of overall team ability, given new and returning players, along with coach interviews.

1. CORONA CENTENNIAL

2007: 13-2, Inland Division champions. Outlook: The Huskies reached the State Bowl Championship last season but lost to De La Salle. They are in terrific shape to get back there in 2008, with LB Vontaze Burfict leading a powerhouse defense. QB Taylor Martinez has transferred in from Cajon to lead the offense.

Safety right???

yes he is going to play safety at NU.

He has been high on NU for a long time. while others are worried about his commitment at this point in time

i think he is solid

With a solid year I could see him getting offers to play QB somewhere, but he and his father may feel S is his best position for big time football.
