Rankings/Stars:

Rivals:

Scout:

ESPN Grade: N/A

Assessing the talent:

"Guy is not just another guy on the field. He is a fun player to watch as he has a "bull in a china shop" style to his play. He is very active for a big boy and while at times he can be sloppy in his play he can be disruptive. He is a thickly built kid with adequate height. Needs to be more consistent in his get-off, but he shows that he can be explosive at times coming out of his stance. When he is clicking and firing off the ball low and shooting his hands he can stun and knock back a blocker. He can be disruptive in the backfield by getting the blocker on his heels and pushing him back. He does need to watch his pad level as he can tend to play high. He will come off the ball with force but will leave his chest exposed. He can struggle with double teams some because he can play high. He can be active with hands, but needs to be more consistent in quickly punching and separating from blockers. He can be violent, but at times makes things harder on himself and gets caught up wrestling with blockers. When he can get to the shoulder of a blocker he can power his way into the backfield and will flash the ability to turn his hips and get skinny some to slip past. He has a good motor and really hustles around. As a pass rusher he can bull rush his way back, but needs to be more active with his weapons and work on shedding from the blockers so he can not just create pressure, but also get to the quarterback. There are some things that Guy needs to clean up, but he is a big kid that lets it fly on the snap of the ball."

- from ESPN

Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 10%. Verbally committed to Cal, but we recently offered and he seems very excited about it.

Latest from Husker Journal. We are in it. I just don't see this guy ending up at Cal.

MARCH 23, 2009. PREP STAR

JAY GUY, DT, 6-2, 300, ALDINE (EISENHOWER), TEXAS

Guy Looking Around

“Yes I committed to California. I thought it was a good school, academics, football wise. I haven’t been there before I just talk to the coaches out there. I’m still looking around. I’m getting my visits set up for the summer. I’m not solid with California I’m a soft verbal to them.” Guy said

“I told the California coaches that I was going to look around, they understood. I still have a lot of time even though I’m graduating early In January. I still want to look around find the best fit for me.” Guy said “UCLA is one of the schools I’m going to look at this summer. Probably check put A&M and Michigan. I’m probably going to take an official to Nebraska but I don’t know for sure.” Guy said

Why UCLA?

“It’s LA, so you know it’s really nice out there. It’s a great environment great education. It’s on a rise football team. UCLA said I can have a chance to play early there. UCLA coaches really want mo out there and I have a chance to fit in.” Guy added

Close To Home

“It’s (Texas A&M) school, they have a good program. A&M is trying to regain their reputation. I talked to Coach Sherman the other day you can tell his energy.” Guy said

“The fans feel pretty confident what Sherman is doing,” Guy said, “They like the recruits he is bringing down and the direction where the program is going. I think A&M had a good recruiting class this year, I think they can do something if they put the players in the right places.”

Championships

“I like Michigan,” Guy said, “They have championships. It’s a great school. Coach Rodriguez is a pretty good coach hopefully he can jump start Michigan back to the old ways. Bring them back to National Championships and Big 10 Championships.”

Nebraska Might Get A Visit

“If I do go to Nebraska it will be this fall and check out a game. Nebraska has tradition there, it’s all tradition. I just got offered from Nebraska last week. I get a lot of letters from them. Most of my letters come from Coach (Bo) Pelini.” Guy said

Surprised Offer

“I was surprised to get an offer from them (Nebraska).” Guy said, “I never thought Nebraska would ever come all the way down to Houston to recruit me. Nebraska and all the schools that offered me said they will be down this spring and talk to me.”

“I’m going to take as many visits as I can but you know with the short time I have, I don’t know if I will make them all. I’ll probably have my school chosen by end of November. I’ll try to make some (game day) visits after my Friday night games.” Guy said

“I’m looking at a school where I like the coaching staff and a great education. I’m willing to leave the area. Just what feels right. My parents support me whatever I do. Where ever I go they will support me.” Guy said

Hearing From Other Schools

“Schools are trying to come in like Notre Dame. Vanderbilt and Oregon pretty much are interested.” Guy added

“Our school plays a 4-3 defense,” Guy said, “I play nose tackle. I also can play defensive tackle, shade and the three technique.”

In cases like these I always wonder whether it's the kid waffling, the school he committed to pushed a decision before he was ready, or both.

In any case at least we're not out of the hunt. DT is a hard position to recruit.

It's not impossible, but I tend to agree that it is probably unlikely. And juding by the pic this kid seriously looks like he's five feet tall.

I think Jay is going to end up at Nebraska. He sounds like he likes the other schools he's looking at (UCLA and Cal) but it also sounds like he's looking for more. He said he'll probably make a decision within a month of the visit to Nebraska for the OU game.

yeah i hope so too... he seems to a smart guy who has some intense football skills... i think he will end up a husker too... dont really know the connection yet except the most obvious being JP.... you look on Jps profile on Rivals and ALL the top guys we are recruiting are all on JP's shoulders... got to be a lot of work for one man we should get him some help in the recruiting as seems like JP picks up a lot of the recruiting steam :hellloooo:hellloooo:hellloooo:hellloooo:hellloooo

Looks to be visiting for the OU game according to Rivals?

Yep. Still planning on it. Says Cal, Nebraska, and UCLA are the top 3 but his is still looking around. Those are the only schools with visits.

I would think it would help to have Chase Rome commit recently. You'd think he would see he could play with Rome, Ankrah, Vestel and Ashburn at this point and want to play with recruits like that.

Hey guys sorry I didn't give much info it was late last night... but I guess you'll just have to trust me.

I saw Jay Guy and he was just glowing and someone asked him if he was coming and he said "Yeah its official I just made the commitment"

Also just from seeing Guy I would say he definitely has a different body style than any of the DT's on the roster. Obviously he wasn't in pads, but he was much more "squatty" (shorter and thicker) than the other DT's who are mostly big 6"4 type guys. Not a knock on him at all just saying hes a different player than we have now.

Absolutely great news!

Heard he was the top DT on our board.

Great pickup. Hopefully one of many this week.

looking at the youtube clips and other things i can find mr. guy definetly deserves a 4 star from rivals... (has it from scout).... the guy is a beast and the 3 star thing is weak and in my opinon actaully is udnerratted by rivals.... a offer list like that only strenthens what you see on the field....

From Husker Journal:

NOVEMBER 29 2009. MESSAGE BOARDS

JAY GUY, DL, 6-1, 300, 5, ALDINE (EISENHOWER), TEXAS

“I liked everything, fans, coaches, atmosphere great program. Everything about it was great. I’m really excited about Nebraska I’m going up their midterm.” Guy said about his college choice to Nebraska

“I went to the Oklahoma game it was a good game. It was crazy 86,000 fans. Everybody was into it, fans knew who all the recruits that were there”

Fans Knew Welcomed Guy

“Many of the people in the crowd knew my name, knew who I was and wanted me to go there (Nebraska). Fans came up and talked to me and even wanted photo’s” Guy said

Husker Nation Support

“The facilities were some of the best in the country, all the donations, all the alumni. Nebraska really gives back, there you go.” Guy said

“Nebraska offered me in March that’s when I met Coach Mike Ekeler came by my school and spoke to me and all that. They (Nebraska) just stayed with me. Coach J P (Papuchis) was my recruiter. He’s a pretty cool guy, laid back down to earth.” Guy said

Pelini Brothers

“Oh yes, of course it did, it was a big influence. Both (Carl and Bo) Pelini were down to earth and straight forward.” Guy said about the Pelini brother’s defensive background

“Nebraska coaches say I’m quick off the ball for my size. They (Nebraska) look for play makers not just height and size. Just make plays.” Guy said

Met Tom Osborne

“I met Tom Osborne he and my family sat down and spoke to him. He’s a real good guy, real calm and laid back. That’s true what I can say about everybody down there.” Guy said

I wouldnt read too much into it. He said that he was very anxious to get on campus and start. He also said on his visit that he thinks that NU and the Brothers Pelini can get him to the next level.

He needs to lose about 20-25 lbs of bad weight and replace it with muscle.. I could see the staff having him drop 15lbs overall to increase his speed. He's a little slow in the trenches and needs to improve his strength before he'll see a lot of playing time.

He will be here in January which will help him tremendously IMO. Lets let Dodson and the staff decide what they want do with him. :)

I know Pelini wants speed on his defense but it's not a bad thing to have a big gap stuffer in there either. It's not like the dude has to be all muscle but I'm sure he'll just naturally lose about 15 lbs and replace it with muscle from the program.
