yet another Cody Green thread

Four-Star Recruit
I jumped on the CG bandwagon this last couple of weeks due to what I was seeing out of Zac Lee.

I have jumped back off.. (you can ridicule me if you want)

The main thing that I want to go back to is when we recruited this guy.

I watched his HS film and what not, and honestly, I never saw anything that spectacular with his play. I didn't understand where all this man love was coming from.

I take some intangibles into account, and still didn't see a "winner".

Some guys are scrappy and just get it done. Others have superior gifts.

Others still have the heart.

Now, I do watch allot of film of recruits, and I didn't understand why this guy was so highly ranked or recruited.

CG is a decent runner, but not as good as Jammal Lord was.

CG is a decent passer, but not as good as Joe Ganz was.

So, in time, I've come to a conclusion on why CG was so highly ranked and recruited.

Physically, he is very mature beyond his years...

He was a Man playing HS football, solely out of his physical maturity as compared to 16, 17 & 18 year olds that he was facing in high school.

That's it.

He has great size, great maturity physically, but I don't think I've seen any intangibles during his film that would make me think he is a gamer or a tommie frazier or even a joe ganz...

I know some people are going to rip me a new one, but I'm just being honest with my assessment and I bet LTW is better at both running and passing than CG.

It's like good old Josh Freeman.. he had some skills, but was never a game changer, just had size.

I like Taylor Martinez and Tyler Gabbert's film much better.

Ok, rip away ;)

Every High School recruit is a lump of clay. Some of it is better quality than others, but none of them are ready to step into a college role and excel immediately. They all take work.

There's just no way to determine future worth of Cody from what we've seen so far. He's "got potential." He's not unskilled. That's about it, and it's the same thing we have for Taylor Martinez and Tyler Gabbert (presuming TG ends up here).

Give the kid time. Careers are best viewed retrospectively.

All I know is that Leach recruited him to play at TT. So, I'm assuming Leach must have thought that he could become a gifted passer.

Well Cody Green did lead his HS team deep into the playoffs in Texas. The guy also willed his team to win a couple of times along the way, a 200 yard rushing effort comes to mind. The young man has that winning quality.

Leach is a mad genius. Who knows why he does what he does! He may have been just recruiting him to sabotage us!!! :ahhhhhhhh :ahhhhhhhh :ahhhhhhhh :hellloooo :hellloooo :hellloooo :ahhhhhhhh :ahhhhhhhh :ahhhhhhhh

And he would end up sitting for 4 years before getting his one year to start like the majority of the other "system" QB's that went through Tech!

Does it really matter how many years he sat before he played? The point was that Leach apparently saw something in his arm that the OP isn't giving Green credit for.

Huck, I completely agree with you on what we have seen of Cody Green so far. I have seen better things from Spano although it was only in a spring game. Why haven't we seen Washington at all this year? Is he red shirting? If any of our QBs are going to pull off the option, I would say it would be him. I was never on the Green bandwagon or one who blindly defends Lee, but I just have my doubts whether Green will emerge as the starter for us for years to come. It's also really too early in his career to write him off either. I do have a feeling that next year at this time our starter will not be Lee or Green.

I think that has been the best point, ever. With blogs and boards, everyone is hyper-critical and incredibly quick to judge. Green has not been impressive, yet. Who knows what he will develop into, or if he will develop, but I think he does have potential to lead a successful defense.

Joe, unfortunately they burned LTW's redshirt in 2 games this year..

don't get me started on that because its just a major hot button with me and a serious screw up by the coaching staff in my opinion.

It is hard to see into the future on how CG will turn out.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but at this point, I think Lee and LTW are our best options at QB.

Also, generally speaking, this is a game of juniors and seniors, and although we are young in allot of positions, Bo is starting to play his players, at least on defense.

It is a pure guess, they are assuming the depth chart won't change from OU to KU. Little do they realize this Staff's penchant for changing QB's lately.
