Cotton statistical breakdown

Anyone wanna help hunt down some stats? I don't how accessible some of these statistical categories are. I would love to breakdown how well Cotton's offenses have ranked (nationally and in conference) in his years with Nebraska and Iowa State. Particularly in yards per carry and sacks allowed. Maybe even yards per pass attempt too, as the offensive line can have a big effect on that. Let me know if you know how to get a hold of these numbers.

Here is what I have so far. I'll add more as I find it:

YPC = yards per carry

SAPG = sacks allowed per game

2003 @ Nebraska

YPC: 4.28 (41st)

SAPG: 1.31 (N/A)

2004 @ Iowa State

YPC: 3.17 (97th)

SAPG: 1.67 (106th)

2005 @ Iowa State

YPC: 2.70 (112th)

SAPG: 3.25 (107th)

2006 @ Iowa State

YPC: 3.04 (104th)

SAPG: 3.17 (109th)

2008 @ Nebraska

YPC: 4.54 (40th)

SAPG: 1.62 (43rd)

2009 @ Nebraska

YPC: 3.96 (71st)

SAPG: 1.46 (38th)

Here is a breakdown of his coaching career.

1995-1997

Head coach of Hastings College, where in 1995 he won the Nebraska-Iowa Athletic Conference and took Hastings to NAIA playoffs, and he was named Coach of the Year.

1998-2002

Offensive Line and OC at New Mexico State. In 1998, 2000, and 2002, they finished with a Top 25 offense. They were also ranked in the Top 25 in rushing for the 6 years he was there.

2004 as OC

Cotton coached at Iowa State. Here is a breakdown of each year he was there.

2004: 1328 Net yards rushing, 2876 net yards passing, averaged 4.9 yards per play, and they allowed 27 sacks (for reference, the National Champion that year, USC, allowed 50 sacks).

I was unable to find the exact year that Cotton was let go from Iowa State, but here are his stats from 2008 and 2009 (as far as sacks go and rushing yards).

2008

Net rushing yards:2207

Sacks allowed: 35

2009

Net Rushing yards: 1836

Sacks allowed: 42

He was out with the rest of the staff when Chizik was hired. He volunteered as a high school assistant coach during the year he was away from college ball.

His stats at Iowa St. are abysmal. His stats at Nebraska are better, as expected, but still mediocre. The highest he ranks in either category is 38th. That's this season in sacks allowed. And that's not much to celebrate, considering we are 97th in pass attempts per game. You aren't going to give up many sacks when you're passing the ball so rarely.

He was 11th in yards per game last year but point taken the guy does not have a verry strong resume

True, aided by two pro-caliber Cally recruits (Slauson and Murtha), a good QB and two great receivers.

This doesn't make any sense. Is that stat in 04 a mistake? How can 1.67 sacks/game be 106th and then then next year 3.25 is 107th? That's a big jump.

Anyone have any stats from the new mexico days? ISU is a tough place to grade him on due to the talent...

I noticed that too. Strange but true. Check HERE and HERE. The numbers are much lower across the board in 2004... not sure why. Maybe there was a change in the way they called holding or something. Either way, ISU was near the bottom both years.
