2011 National Championship

Recommended Posts

After staving off #11 Oklahoma in Big 12 Championship, #1 Nebraska goes on to play #2 Boise St. in the FCS 2011 National Championship. Defense is lead by Lombardi Trophy winner Jared Crick, All American LB's Sean Fisher and Will Compton and Big 12 Defensive player of the year Prince Amukamara. QB Zac Lee breaks the school record with most career passing TD, WR Khiry Cooper who now holds the school record for most receiving yards, and Heisman Finalist Roy Helu Jr.

Boise St. jumps out to a huge lead by halftime 30 - 14, with Roy Helu Jr. breaking his hand after scoring his second TD and running for 179 yd. Boise St. continued its trample over the Husker defense by the end of the 3rd with the score 40 - 21. The 4th Quarter was the turn of Big Red tide, as after Prince Amukamara gets a 21 yd INT. Zac Lee connects on 1 or 3 TD passes that Khiry Cooper catches, bringing the Huskers back to within, 40 - 35. What really put the Huskers ahead was Rex Burkhead's 45 yd TD run that put the Huskers at 41, then Zac Lee on a QB read play in the 4 WR shotgun formation scores the 2pt conversion and puts the Huskers up, 40 - 43. But Boise St would not be silenced, with 2:30 left in the 4th, Boise St. drove down the field to connect on 18 yd TD pass to put Boise St. in front of the Huskers by 4. With a minute left on the clock, the Huskers needed a TD to win the game.

After two 15 yd passes completed to Antonio Bell, the Huskers were within Alex Henery's FG range, but they needed a TD to win. After an incomplete pass to Gilleylen and a 5 yd sack on Zac Lee, a timeout was called with 30 seconds left on the clock. After a 21 yd pass from Zac Lee to Antonio Bell, Bell fumbles the ball and its picked up by Boise St. However, Coach of the Year Bo Pelini calls for a review on play and the booth reversed the call saying Bell's knee was down before the ball popped out. Huskers had caught a break, maybe. They still needed a TD, but down at the 19 yd line, and QB Zac Lee out on the last play due to a bruised sternum, QB Cody Green steps in to try for one short pass to the endzone with only 3 seconds left on the clock. WR's Gilleylen, A. Bell, Brandon Kinnie, Khiry Cooper and Quincy Enunwa line up, with no one in the backfield, Green takes the snap, two corner backs blitz from the outside, one is picked up by the center the other is closing fast on Green, to left is Kinnie who is wide open, but he is on the line of scrimmage, even if he does catch it, he has to get past the CB and safety to the endzone, Green checks the other receivers and finds Enunwa open, but not for long as the FS covering Gilleylen breaks off his double coverage and begins to make his way to Enunwa. Only one shot, Green throws to Enunwa just he crosses the goal line and the FS hits him. Enunwa rolls into the endzone, but does he have possession of the ball? HE DOES! HUSKERS WIN IN A STUNNING VICTORY THE 2011 FCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AS BACKUP CODY GREEN FIRES TO TRUE FRESHMAN QUINCY ENUNWA FOR THE GAME WINNING TD!!!

Huskers - 49

Boise St. - 47

Can there be a sweeter ending to a Husker season?

the game actually going this way, with that many points scored would surprise me more than the Huskers winning a national championship, period.

Agreed, but that's just the way the game played out for me on NCAA 2010. That season was full of BS if you ask me, Garrett Gilbert was considered for the Heisman, up until they played me at Lincoln, haha. I made sure that he would never be considered for that trophy when they left, 6 INT and 8 sacks. Biggest surprise was Colorado going 10 - 2, and Scotty McKnight was up for the Heisman, he finished 5th behind Roy Helu Jr. LTU ranked #5 going to the Orange Bowl to face Florida. Boston College finished their year at #14.

Off to the 2012 season, Cody Green starts with Brion Marsh as backup, Rex Burkhead and Dontrayevous Robinson as IB, Gilleylen, Kinnie, Bell, and Cooper. Kyler Reed and Chase Harper. OL is Qvale, Moudy, Rodriguez, Ash, and Jones. Most of my defense comes back, with the exception of Jared Crick, couldn't convince him to stay for his senior year. :( But life goes on as Steinkuhler, Rome, and Randle take over, Guy has been redshirted this year. Meredith and Odighizuwa on the outside of that. Compton and Fisher come back All Americans. Martin and Stoddard split time at MLB, Stoddard been's complaining about transferring. :( Eric Hagg and Thorell become seniors, but Dennard takes over for Amukamara as a junior (redshirted him last year), behind them is Jase Dean and Andrew Green. Austin Cassidy has been redshirted this year, so Corey Cooper becomes the starter, P.J. Smith (also had to convince him to stay and not go Pro) starts with Osborne behind him.

Anyway, cheers to a second Big 12 Championship and NC title run in 2012. :restore
