PER ESPN Report, it was reported that we are in the lead:

"Turene, a 6-foot-2, 215-pounder, has offers from Nebraska, Illinois, Florida Atlantic and Florida International. The Cornhuskers are said to have the lead at this time."

ESPN

Very, very early and hard to tell with Florida kids, but because we're showing the love early we might have increased our chances.

Expect major in state competition

-----------

Boyd Anderson linebacker Kent Turene has seen the interest from college coaches slowly pick up steam the past several weeks. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder has been collecting offers on a regular basis with two more coming this week.

“I’ve been offered by FIU, FAU, Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota, and just been recently offered by Texas A&M,” said Turene.

The offer from the Aggies came Thursday afternoon.

“Today, I talked to (defensive line coach) Terrell Williams,” explained Turene. “He told me he’s going to be recruiting me, he’s excited about me and he just sent the offer today.”

Turene continued on the Texas A&M program.

“My thoughts on Texas A&M are that they have tradition, also they’re in the Big 12, they play a lot of big schools, and they sound like they have a young and upcoming team.”

Wednesday the Minnesota Golden Gophers extended an offer to the talented inside linebacker. Turene talked about what coaches told him about the program.

“Minnesota, it seems like a good school. I talked to (linebacker) Coach (John) Butler and the running back coach (Thomas Hammock). They talked about the program and what they are trying to do. They are trying to build the defense and trying to be an up and coming program to be one of the top teams in the Big 10.”

Even with the offers Turene has in hand currently, there are several heavy hitters keeping the lines of communication open with the 2011 prospect.

“I hear from Florida Coach (Zach) Azzanni, also hear from Coach (Eddie) Gran from Florida State. I hear from Ole Miss Coach (Chris) Vaughn, also hear from coach at Miami , Coach (Jeff) Stoutland. I hear from Michigan, Coach (Greg) Robinson the defensive coordinator, that’s about it.”

Turene recently visited a spring practice for Miami and plans to take in a spring practice at Florida next month.

FIU...and nebraska? um ok...

Don't be fooled by the lack of early big offers. This kid is good and will continue to pick up (see illinois, Minnesota, A&M). I would not be surprised if Fla. St. and Miami offer. Florida is only talking to him in case they don't get their preferred guy. This guy will be a high 3* possibly 4* by rivals. No lower than a 5.7 would be my guess.

Well, seems that Turene hasn't researched the defenses of Kevin Cosgrove (Co-Defensive Coordinator at U of M). Minnesota will be trying to "build up the defense" as long as Cosgrove has a say in the defensive schemes. If that is Minnesota's selling point, then damn Kent, move on.

I would not let Kevin Cosgrove coach my flag football team let alone be my DC and try to recruit players for me. UofM is going no where with him there. I am normally not this blunt but Kevin Cosgrove is flat out terrible and has no business in a major D1 program.

Outrageous, sir! Another malicious smear in a Pelini campaign to undermine the superior genius of Kevin Cosgrove!

:LOLtartar Great some people will get upset about this now. You forgot :sarcasm

I really like this kid and think he could be a top LB for this class. Hope we recruit him hard and pick him up. I heard he is going to visit sometime in the summer or fall.

His top 4 that are sticking out the most but are not his favorite: West Virginia, North Carolina, Texas A&M, and Nebraska

He likes West Virginia because he knows a lot of kids on the team and the coaching staff. He likes Butch Davis at North Carolina and his coaching tradition. Texas A&M has Dat Nguyen as their linebacker coach who has played in the NFL and Nebraska is one of the top 5 defenses in the nation and we have a great stable coaching staff with 2 seasons under their belt together.

What really bugs me is that he's waiting for offers from USC and Florida. I don't know if he wants to go to either of these two schools or if he just wants to add more scholarships from big time Universities to bump up his ego.

He plans to visit every school that has offered him a scholarship starting June 12.

You could add Miami to this group as well. If any of these schools offer, he will be tough to steal.

Dont want him. If he is "waiting" for those offers it just means he thinks pretty highly of himself and wants his ego fluffed a bit IMO.

Or maybe he just has a desire to play at one of those schools - but doesn't want to waste his time/money traveling to either if he doesn't have an offer especially considering the fact he has a number of great offers. I am guessing Sterup is waiting on a Nebraska offer - doesn't mean he's trying to fluff his ego or that Iowa/Wisconsin aren't quality institutions he'd be happy to play at. Don't jump to conclusions and put the kid down. Give him the benefit of the doubt.

Heck, who wouldn't want offers from those big time schools?

I agree but there are some that just want more offers to bring up their ego not saying thats what this kid is doing but I found his quote kind of suspecious. If he would've said I'm hoping to get an offer from USC than that would make me think he really likes USC and wants to go there but to say both USC and Florida makes me believe that he wants those two offers to boost up his ego but I hope I'm wrong.

O well if the kid wants those to boost his ego then fine. But I have complete faith in this staffs ability to find under the radar prospects especially at linebacker: Tre Madden, David Santos, Nico Ornelas all were found by Bo and Co and have an offer. So if Kent wants to boost his ego its his life, but we can definatly find other LB's, if it comes down to it.

I think he goes to USC, very high on the Kiffins

"I don't really have any favorites right now. I'm just focusing on finishing up spring football. After that, I'll start trying to narrow it down and will try to take some visits this summer. I'd like to get it down to 10 (schools) over the next few weeks."

Careful with the quoting.

Offer list is over 30 now, filled with the top schools in the country. Sounds like Nebraska is one of his favorites and will make the short list once he cuts it down. We will see.

Initially was a 4* on Rivals ranked #15, but lost a star and is now a 3* ranked #17. Scout on the other hand initially had him a 3* ranked #23, but he's now a 4* ranked #18. A flip-flop between Rivals and Scout.

This kid has left the door open. Let's get him at a major need position. USC...really? See USC Sucks...Who Can We Steal? Rivals has teaser on USC checking in on him...listed as Soft Verbal. We need this kid to visit.

From Husker Journal:

OCTOBER 24, 2010. MESSAGE BOARDS

KENT TURENE, LB, 6-3, 230, LAUDERDALE LAKES (BOYD ANDERSON), FLORIDA

“I like the environment the school is academically solid,” says the USC commit. “That’s important to me to get a great education.” Turene said

Likes The West Coast Weather

“I’ve been to Miami. In Florida it’s real humid but in California it’s a total different environment. The weather is great it’s 70 degrees year round. It’s just feels a comfortable place where I can be.” Turene said

“I’ve always been a Monte Kiffin fan since I was a little kid. I just grew up watching great USC linebackers. I could be one of them; I want to keep on the tradition.” Turene said

“I like the players at USC. How much people love USC just the support they have there. USC wants you to be successful on and off the field.” Turene said

To Take Other Visits

“Schools have not backed off about 15 schools called me in a two week period. I’m still looking at other visits to see how everything is.” Turene said

Huskers Still In It

“I like Nebraska I’m still looking at them. They’re having a great year. Coach Pelini is a great defensive minded coach. He’s had one of the best defenses in the country the past seasons. I’m just looking forward seeing the program.” Turene said

“I talk to Coach Tim Beck (NU) he’s trying to get me to visit them. I probably will. Coach Beck said I can come in and make it huge for them and become a premiere player at their school. I’m a need for Nebraska right now.” Turene said

Interested In LSU

“I would like to visit LSU also. I like their defensive coach John Chavis he’s the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Coach Billy Gonzales said they need me real bad he recruited me when he was at Florida. He just wants me to come in and make a different.” Turene said

All this is an understatement. Turene could likely play day 1 with our need for LBs. Scary thin position.

If only Chris Williams wouldn't have been such a moron. We would not be as thin at LB as we are.

Eric Martin is quite a ways away from contributing at LB from what I have heard. Have you heard the same Willie???

Pretty much. Eric plays with too much reckless abandon and hangs others out to dry in doing so.

But at least he will always be a ST monster.

I certainly lost some respect for him w/ that helmet-helmet hit though. That was pretty much BS on his part...then to be laughing and f'in around on the sidelines while the guy was still down on the field was pretty classless IMO.

I have watched the replay of the hit several times and I still don't think it was a helmet to helmet hit. Martin put his head down, but he blast the dude with his shoulder pads. I was happy to finnaly see someone fly around out there and lay the wood. And as far as him screwing around on the sidelines, ya he probably took it too far with they guy beng down still. But he was jacked up! I mean did you see that hit, I would have been giddy too.

sorry I wasn't online this weekend and started reading recruiting before the Husker football threads. (I pretty much just roam recruiting on HuskerBoard) Saw knapplc's argument. He has a very good point, I don't agree - but also don't want to start an argument in recruiting. If that same hit had been on a Husker rather than by a Husker I think we'd be saying it was illegal and should have been flagged. It's one of those that was close enough that if he was flagged none of us could really argue conclusively that he shouldn't have been...just like you can have a valid argument it was legal. Just my opinion. Sorry I brought it up here. Regardless of legal or not, I guess I don't know how jacked up I'd be when the guy was laying on the field like a dead fish for 10 minutes.

BINGO!!! You nailed this one. And I wasn't saying that he was in the right for acting all crazy while the player was still down, but I am understanding.

it was a clean hit. kid should have been paying more attention and i bet he will next time. what should martin have done? gone for his legs? slowed down and two hand touched him? yelled out "excuse me, sir, i'm headed in your direction"? it's part of the game.
