CLEMSON - The best place to be on Tuesday afternoon in Clemson, if you happened to be on the Clemson football practice fields, was under one of the hydration tents. Or in a shaded golf cart.

As temperatures reached nearly 100 degrees during the Dabo Swinney Football Camp, shade was at a premium, but hundreds of rising 8th-through 12th graders worked out under the brutal sun for Clemson coaches and coaches hire specifically for the event, and the standouts really didn’t surprise anybody.

Four-star DL prospect Gabe Wright was on hand, but he didn’t work out for the coaches and instead shared the shade of a golf cart with RB Isaiah Crowell, a teammate at Carver High School in Columbus, Ga., and a fellow four-star prospect.

Wright later said his top three currently are Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee, and because of the depth at running back that Clemson has in their next class, Crowell isn’t really on the radar.

Clemson commitment Shaq Anthony worked out under the watchful eyes of his father, former Clemson player Vernie Anthony. Also on hand was tight end Eric MacLain, a 6-5, 245-pounder who committed to Clemson back in April. He already looks the part of a college tight end.

The most notable prospect on site was Tony Steward, the nation’s No. 2 overall recruit as listed by Rivals, and the linebacker from St. Augustine, FL joins MacLain in already looking the part of a college player.

Clemson secondary coach Charlie Harbison said he a “10-star recruit” on hand today helping him out with the defensive backs as former Clemson player and current Denver Bronco safety Brian Dawkins was on hand to help coach the camp. Dawkins said it was his first time doing something like this.

“This is my first time, but I am really enjoying it,” he said. “It’s good to get out here and see the younger players and try and help them out.”
