He already has a top 5 that he'd like to visit which are: Arkansas, Nebraska, Iowa State, Boise State, and Purdue

Arkansas is the clear favorite at this time because he was orginally from Arkansas before moving to Texas. He says that he'd like to go back to Arkansas so he could see his family.

Looks like distance may be a key part with Mitchel on making his decision. On a side note Mitchel's father is an ex Sooner so lets see how long it takes Oklahoma to make an offer and how that will make an impact on Mitchel's decision.

I'd like to believe we could beat those schools in his top 5 out, but the Arkansas tie and distance factor worry me.

Tevin Mitchel talked to HawgSport.com today and has a new top 5 which are: Arkansas, Purdue, Iowa State, Nebraska, and I guess Kansas.

Looks like he bumped Boise State out and looks unclear about Kansas the way he added them into his top 5. I think this kid is a lock for Arkansas and his dad even said that Arkansas would be a good place for his son.

SERIOUSLY?

:clap:w00t

Welcome to Husker Nation, Mr. Mitchel.

His favorite thing about Nebraska is the coaches! After much deliberation he said he was ready to get it over with!

Welcome to the Blackshirts Tevin! :bonez

It came out of nowhere, like Aaryn Bouzos's commitment. Something I'm not used to around here.

Like Carlfense just said, thanks for breaking the news. +1 :thumbs

BTW, another example of the "awesomeness" of Coach Beck as a recruiter. He's pulled in three 4* prospects so far.

Tyler Moore

Jamal Turner

Tevin Mitchel

Looks like his offer list needs to be updated. Tevin must have become a hot prospect in the last month.

Thanks for reminding me. I just updated it.

FYI, Coach Beck and Coach Brown are Aaron Green's recruiters. That bodes well for us.

45 (means unrated) by ESPN... as we've seen they tend to be slow and wrong in their analysis, unless it is in our favor, then they are right.

Free rivals qoute:

Another prospect who emerged this spring is Tevin Mitchel of Mansfield (Texas) Legacy. Mitchel arrived at the TCU Nike Football Training Camp with four scholarship offers and very little exposure. He dominated the event and went on to impress visiting college coaches all spring. Now, Mitchel has close to 20 offers, including ones from Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Texas A&M. On the same day that he entered the top 250 with a No. 110 ranking, Mitchel committed to Nebraska.

^that's ok to do.

and holy cow, anybody have any idea this one was coming? I mean I kind of had some inclinations when Bouzos committed that he would eventually be N, but this came out of nowhere to me.

I knew where on top of his list with Arkansas but thought he'd wait a while. I also got a little scared when OU offered....

Tevin Mitchel hasn’t visited Nebraska.

He hasn’t even been in the state.

Not the likely scenario for the Huskers when it comes to getting someone this early, especially when that recruit has close to 20 offers, including Arizona, Arkansas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, TCU and Virginia.

The last time we talked to him he said he was sure about two official visits he would take, Nebraska being one of them and Arkansas, located in his home state, being the other.

Not anymore.

Last night he pulled the trigger for the Huskers and the dynamic 6-0, 175 lbs. defensive player talked about what. “I sat down with my parents, and we thought it would be a good fit. They just have good people there,” he said.

The relationships Mitchel has built with his primary recruiter, running backs coach Tim Beck, along with head coach Bo Pelini and secondary coach Marvin Sanders, was the tipping point for him. “They are just good people. They are people you can trust, and I know they have a good program there,” he said.

You have to think that without visiting Nebraska even once before his decision, there might be some concern about his decision. There was certainly no small amount of surprise from coach Beck when Mitchel called him to let him know. “Yeah, he was surprised. But he was excited to have me,” he said. “He just asked me to sleep on it. But I didn’t really need to sleep on it. I knew where I wanted to go.”

Mitchel joins eight others of this class, including Jamal Turner, a player who Mitchel knows well and says approaches the game like he does. “He’s smooth. He’s a great player, but he don’t talk out there. He just does his business, a lot like me,” Mitchel said.

As to the inevitable question and the obviousness that schools simply don’t stop recruiting kids after they pull the trigger, Mitchel said that they can recruit him if they want. But it won’t do them a lot of good. “If they call or whatever, I’ll just tell them where I am going. Nebraska is where I want to be,” he said. “I’m a hundred percent solid. Recruiting is done for me. I am going to Nebraska.”

:yeah

I would agree. I knew it was going to be tough beating Arkansas because of his family connections within that state and then OU offers and figured we'd be out of the race since his old man went to OU......goes to show you that it doesn't matter if your family lives here or your dad, brother, cousin, etc went to this school it all comes down to whats best for yourself.

That's awesome. What a turnaround from this time (through August) last year. Gents are on point in the recruiting meetings. We may be done before the season's over at this rate, barring NSD holdouts.

I love the momentum this class is building, and the signings are coming at the right positions right now. Here's to hoping this turns into one of those signature classes that can win a championship.

WOW! Now that's a top corner...#6 rated by Rivals. This is a huge, huge get...

On the other hand, there was a 4-star (albeit lower rated) corner who committed really early last year, without visiting...each situation is different though, so there's no reason to believe history will repeat itself. It was the staff that cooled on Anterio Sloan too, anyway.

I'm surprised by this...SWEET. Guy had 18 offers! Texas isn't one of them though.
