The "Suuuuuuuuuuh" Thread

Thank goodness hes doing well for my lions (been a fan of the lions since 1991, we did go to the nfc championship that yea only to get throttled by the soon to be supe bowl champions, the Washington Redskins). Suh and vanden bosch have been beasts. I honestly think corey williams and suh are the best DT tandem IN THE LEAGUE. Williams is just as big of a beast as Suh! We got burleson back from injury a few games ago and the lions should end up with about 5 wins. Our lb cop is TERRIBLE and ou secondary is horrible, besides Delmas. Raiola, even though he is a fellow husker, has been horrible for us. He calls the wrong line audibles when he sees a defense blitzing. I know other lions fans are really happy with Suh, he could easily get 12 sacks this year.

Maybe they'll make a push for Amukamara.

I want the cowboys to go after prince,we arent going to do anything this year anyways our team flat out just gave up after romo got hurt. Kitna is sooooo bad.. he had 4 interceptions last game.

Congrats, Big Suh. :throwdabones1:

Allen Park-- You wonder how they managed to lose two games in October.

Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was named NFL rookie of the month for October and return ace Stefan Logan was named NFC special teams player of the month. The Lions also had the rookie of the month in September, Jahvid Best. The Lions were 2-2 in October.

"The thing with Ndamukong is that every week he's gotten a little bit better and he's adapted very, very quickly; great athletes usually do," coach Jim Schwartz said. "He's improved from week to week the way he plays blockers, the run game and also in the passing game. He just gets it. He's got a really good motor. He's really tough. He's just been very, very productive for us." Suh leads the Lions with 6.5 sacks.

Did you guys see Suh rip through two or three defenders on his way to sacking McNabb towards the end of the "miked up" video Nexus posted? That was a sick play. Remember how the doubters said he wouldn't be able to do that against NFL-caliber linemen?

Remember how even those of us who didn't doubt him felt he'd take some time before his game rose above typical NFL caliber?

Why do we continually underestimate him?

His 2nd sack of McNabb he ripped through #71 off the line, who by the way was actually holding Suh at first before he tore through. Guess who #71 is? The #4 overall pick from Oklahoma, Trent Williams.

Looks like McCoy is playing quite well for a rookie. His stats are impressive --- he is doubtless contributing and was a solid pick. that said... Suh is a beast and is dramatically better.... as we all knew would be the case.

Sure, but the question back then wasn't "Would McCoy be a good rookie," it was, "Will McCoy be better than Suh?" The obvious answer was no, he wouldn't be. The stats bore that out. The combine bore that out. Their play on the field the last two years bore that out. Despite this, despite all the evidence to the contrary, McShay went on every program, article and blog he could find to say that McCoy was the better pro prospect. McShay made a case for McCoy and it could have affected Suh's draft stock and his future, and people were pissed. The fact that McShay was not just wrong but horribly wrong still rankles with plenty of people.

If an NFL general manager is letting McShay or Kiper influence them, they should be fired.

Exactly. It's due to the fact that Suh was so incredibly and tangibly destructive in every game he played last year, truly, a once-in-a-decade type of season and type of player. Not to take anything away from McCoy. He is a very fine athlete that any team would take for their roster, but his impact on games vs the utter and total chaos wrought by Suh last year wasn't even close in comparison. A cynical person might wonder if McShay wasn't just horribly wrong but intentionally wrong.

But you know that happens. Gerald McCoy is the perfect example. His stats out of college were mediocre. His conditioning at the combine was abysmal. His strength was in question, his technique, everything. Yet the Bucs wasted a #3 draft pick on him, and if they hadn't someone else would have. There is zero evidence McCoy will ever live up to that draft pick, but there he sits in Tampa with that contract, based (I have to believe) solely on the hype of the draft prognosticators.

Early success for Big 12 at next level

By David Ubben

The Big 12 had a record-breaking performance in the 2010 NFL Draft, landing nine first-round picks and five of the first six picks.

A few of those picks have spent the first half of the season proving they were worth the hefty first-round price tag.

Scouts Inc. has updated its top 10 rookies rankings, and three of the top four are from the Big 12.

Analyst Matt Williamson is particularly impressed with former Nebraska star Ndamukong Suh, who is already eighth in the league with 6.5 sacks for the Detroit Lions and scored his first career touchdown on a fumble return in last week's game.

"Rarely do defensive tackles enter the league and make such a big impact right away. It is seldom discussed, but this is one of the hardest positions to become accustomed to at this level. The men blocking are much stronger and far more technically sound. Everything happens much faster in very tight quarters and reading the blocking schemes is much more difficult to do so quickly. But none of that has slowed down this marvelous player," Williamson writes. "As a run defender right now, Suh is only average, but he still demands a lot of attention from opposing blocking schemes. As a pass-rusher, he is out of this world. ... He sure looks like the Defensive Rookie of the Year to me."

Suh ranks No. 2 on Williamson's rookie rankings, behind former Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, who has the St. Louis Rams at 4-4 in his first season.

Former Oklahoma State receiver Dez Bryant and current Dallas Cowboy ranks No. 4, after catching six passes for 84 yards against Jacksonville last week and scoring three touchdowns in a Monday night game against the New York Giants two weeks ago.

Former Texas safety Earl Thomas, ranks No. 7 as a rookie with the Seattle Seahawks.

Texas defensive tackle Lamarr Houston (Oakland Raiders) and Oklahoma State cornerback Perrish Cox (Denver Broncos) are also listed among the notables.

The accolades continue to roll in:

DEFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR -- Ndamukong Suh, DT, Lions: With 6½ sacks, one interception, and one fumble recovery for a touchdown in just seven games, Suh could sit out the rest of the season and probably still win the defensive rookie award. The man has brought an attitude and an intensity to Detroit's defense that was sorely lacking, and he already routinely sees double-team blocking.
