No Excuse for Booing!

Recommended Posts

Saying, "there is no excuse for booing", is easy to say because we won. If we lost our second straight game, would you still post this thread?

Absolutely!!! Except now, instead of me complaining, we the majority need to cheer to drown out those boos, as hard as it may be to do with poor play. Stop the boos from being heard!

I have not boo'd. But I have yelled, at the top of my lungs, "are you f*cking kidding me" or "what the f*ck are you doing".

.

Your lucky you don't sit in sec 35 or you would be escorted out because you offended half the fans in that section.

Yea dude, every game I've been to, if I said anything like that in my seats I would be enemy of the state. Plus, I somehow keep the foul language to a minimum considering there are usually some youngster's around. For those who know me, keeping my language in check is pretty tough, but around the kiddies I manage it. I don't know how I do it.

Personally, I do not blame anyone for booing. People drove long distances, took long flights, and paid great money for tickets to see their beloved Huskers. In the 1st half, we saw a team as unmotivated and mentally unprepared for a game as we have seen in a LONG time. No effort, no fire, no anything from this entire team.

It would have been one thing if the team was out there busting their a**es, and just simply getting beat. But it's another to go out and put on the display of football we all saw just one week after the got raped against Wisconsin.

The effort was inexcusable in that 1st half, and the fans simply let them know. It was obvious that tOSU running up and down the field, and the scoreboard weren't enough of hints for the team to pick up their player, so the fans gave them another hint. A few players, namely Lavonte, Rex, and Taylor took the hint and picked up their play in the 2nd half.

Putting it simple - you don't want fans to boo, then go out there and lay it on the line and don't ever try to give us an effort like we saw in the 1st half of that game.

I'm rewatching this game on DVR, and there's a very important thing that you have to note - the booing you heard on TV was because of strategic placement of the microphones, and not so much because everyone was booing. From Bo's reaction to the boos and the fact that I could barely hear them at the north end zone, I think it's pretty clear that the majority of booing came from the student section.

HOWEVER, there's an important contrast to draw from the TV broadcast. I'm just now watching Ohio State's first possession of the second half, and T-Mo just got banged up, was on the carpet, and is walking off the field. Pretty much the whole stadium was clapping as he got to his feet, it was VERY audible in the stadium, but you can barely hear it on TV.

This is a great lesson - do not depend on what you see or hear on the TV for your game analysis. I was very surprised to hear all of the comments/questions about the booing when I got back from the game. I think the folks sitting near the students and watching on TV know far more about it than those of us in the rest of the stadium. Further, you wouldn't know from watching the TV broadcast, but everyone was applauding when Moore walked off the field. Again, you cannot depend on the TV broadcast to give you an accurate picture of what was going on.

I'm glad I finally got to those two points in the game. I wasn't going to say anything about the booing as I saw it was overblown on TV, but then when you couldn't even hear the applause for Moore, that made up my mind to post about it here.

Hope that helps clear that up.

My seats are next too and in front of the student section... I don't think it was them as much as the other mental giants in my section, and no it wasn't at the coaches or the play calls. In my section its "Boooo F'n Taylor is garabge, put in Carnes, Caputo sucks put in the next guy...." Same happened when they boo'ed the defense, yelling players names and boo'ing. It just floors us that they are boo'ing these kids. Its not the pro's they aren't getting paid. Just don't understand it, also a blue hair got in a guys face that was boo'ing, and the response was he pays lots or money so he boo's. Same couple of guys that came back after we were catching up middle of the 4th. The section I was in and the one to left were about the same. However I don't think anyone boo'ed around me while they ran into the locker room. Just giving you my experience from section 14.

Sorry about quoting you knapplc I forgot to click post from earlier. ;)

Hence the reason I watch the game on 55" in the comfort of my own hacienda, where the hefeweizen is always cold and i'm less than 10 feet away from pizza rolls...

Is booing a learned behavior?

I get embarrassed when Bo does his "gheyboi wave" at the refs..and lately at the fans, but who are we trying to scare?

I'll admit I shouted a few niceities at my screen when it appeared we were trying to draw tOSU offsides rather than drive down the field for a last minute FG before the Half, but booing never occured to me.

I saw some booing at a Cardinals/Bears game when I first moved down here, and remember saying to my Brother how much I missed Nebraska's intelegent fans..or something to that effect..

I think i have to go along with this. i don't think it should be an every game thing, BUT nebraska football wants our support, want our time, want our money, want our passion. We are all glad to give but also expect something in return, effort. tackels being broken, lining up wrong, running the wrong routes, not blocking....these are not coaching or game situation errors, these are effort and focus. Passion goes both ways and after weeks of sub-par play, people want to let out frustration. is this any different than BO yelling in a kids face when he misses a block? As mentioned before, these same people are willing to move on and cheer with everything they have as well. Like it or not, this is BIG time college football that generates millions of dollars. Stop acting like this is pee wee football where every kid gets a trophy. I do not think it is the best thing in the world to happen but it is also not the end of the world. The people who boo'd whatever are no less of fans than those who sat there mumbling or b*tching to those around them. Maybe hearing some dissatisfaction from the fans made the players that are competitors want to play harder and inspired them some to come out and shut everyone up?? who knows???

That's just crazy enough to work!!

It (Booing) might work as motivation for a few of the players or coaches...It would give me (an I'd bet Mark Bo) the feeling of "Ef You!".."If you only love me when I'm good, You're not worth the effort and I now realize I can't count on you when times get rough".

----------------

Maybe it has something to do with our own "ownership" of the team...It's not "Our team will beat Your team" it's more like "WE will beat you guys"..I think that's missing in most fan bases.

----------------

It was funny watching them mention something about this on the BTN tonight..How we USED TO have a reputation for never booing..even aplauding the other team..Now we're booing our own?

Personally, I care less about this than I did even a few short years ago when it was largely because of Callihan, but I'm guessing it might have something to do with prolonged acceptance.

Still..It's almost impossible to have any respect for Philadelphia fans..(the first thing I picture when I think of booing fans). Booing of any kind is detrimental to the reputation we've worked so hard to achieve over a long period of time.

, "Booing doesn't help the team, the recruits, or anyone else. I hope people think before they ever boo again".----Tom Osborne
