The Elizabeth Warren thread

Recommended Posts

I like Ron Paul because of his consistent integrity and his most of his foreign policy...however this is the type of thing where he loses me. Because EW wants public roads, schools, fired dept, police, etc he says she's a socialist. By that logic the majority of Americans are socialists....and if that's the case shouldn't our system be socialism? =P Of course not, because he's wrong in saying she's a socialists...just because you want SOME things to be ran by the govt doesn't mean you want EVERYTHING ran by the govt.

It starts around the 4:50 mark...

EW - "nobody in this country who got rich on his own." "You built a factory out there -- good for you. But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to worry that maurauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory,"

Terry Moran asked Paul why Warren was wrong.

"Because she's a socialist," Paul replied. "She wants the government to do all this."

"Educating children is socialism?" Moran wondered.

"That is a socialist idea, that it should be collective," Paul explained. "I preach home schooling, and private schooling and competition in schools. But what she forgets -- she's right. You know, by the use of force, the government comes with a gun and they take money and they build a highway that, incidentally, you can use because you don't have any other choices."

"So in Ron Paul's ideal America, there would be no public highways, no public education?" Moran pressed. "There'd be no public air traffic control system? There'd be no public protection for workers in coal mines?"

"That's an overstatement because it might be a lot better," Paul said. "I think France has a private air traffic controllers."

She does want most things run by the government....................

She also believes she created the "intellectual property" of the OWS.............

Give me a break..................

What does she want ran by the govt that currently isn't now? I'd guess health care, but so do I and I'm not much more a capitalist than socialist. The problem is w/ these people labeling in absolutes. There is middle ground and that is where Warren is...it's where the majority of Americans are.

Sometimes I look at Ron Paul and admire for him for sticking to his guns...and then I realize that his sticking to his guns is just plain crazy sometimes and I truly consider myself a libertarian (small "l"). He goes out of his way to prove that he is not now and will never be in that "middle ground" that all of us are actually in. He's like the crazy uncle that shows up sometimes at Thanksgiving. Let him partake of the meal, but do not leave him alone with any impressionable members of the family.

And interviews like that just goes to show exactly why he will never be a serious national candidate.

Letting business have run over absolutely everything is at last as bad as the government running everything.

I'm a Progressive, not a Libertarian.

However I will take a Libertarian over a Democrat or a Republican.

Sigh... I doubt we will ever get a Progressive running for the presidency who will be albe to raise the funds needed to make a serious challenge.

That is why I support major campaign finance laws, such as those proposed by Russ Feingold of Wisconsin.

You do not consider Barack Obama a "Progressive"?

No, I do not.

I see very litte difference in his economic/financial/taxation policy and foreign policy from that of Bush(43).

At times he talks like a progressive, but he does not execute as one.

I consider the Government takeover of health care in the U.S. to be a progressive policy. But that's just me.

You would be correct... if government had taken over health care.

Without posting the entire Obamacare law, I pose this as proof that the Government is in charge of health care now: You must follow the provisions of the law, or get a waiver from the U.S. Government. The waiver cannot come from the NFL, Disneyland, NAMBLA, the KKK, Rev. Wright, JoPa, Dick Cheney, Bill Clinton, nor Peewee Herman. The only way you can get out of it is to get permission from the controlling authority - the U.S. Government.

The State of Vermont has had to get a waiver to implement our state-wide Single Payer plan.

However there is a huuuuge difference between the authority to grant a waiver and control.
