I could see it if there was a good football stadium in the bigger market of Omaha. But realistically, no.

The Runza Bowl may never be a possibility but could you imagine a first round NCAA Football Playoff home game at Memorial. That would be electric and quite good for businesses.

Lincoln would probably never work for a Bowl Game. But Minneapolis, St. Louis, Indianapolis and Detroit could all host a BCS game and more bowl games. I'm tired of the southern and west coast teams having home field advantage every year. Not to mention the southern cities raking in all the money. Can you imagine what a BCS bowl could do for a city like Detroit's economy? How about the National Title? We need to cater to the south and west coast less.

There is a bowl game (GMAC Bowl) in Detroit already but it is very 3rd tier.

 

The B1G is at a disadvantage come bowl time. Playing USC in LA or SEC teams in FL or New Orleans gives them quasi home field advantage. Look at the Sugar bowl last year. It was 90% Arkansas fans vs OSU fans and it was very loud when the Ark fans got into the game.

So much of its weather and tourism and what not. I agree, in theory I'd love to see a bowl in Detroit, it'd help a lot but as a fan I'd rather go to one in Orlando.

Financially it will not work. The object is to get people outside of your state to come & spend money. Not a lot of people want to travel to Nebraska in Dec/Jan to sit & freeze their a$$es.

 

This is a myth. Most cities lose tons of money on bowl games- kind of like an Olympics. They give major concessions and help provide staffing. Lots of teams don't travel well. The bowl game system is a very clever way for public university money to be swindled by a bowl game board of directors.

You are correct that most cities lose money, but the local business bring in money from tourism. If you look at the College World Series. It cost Omaha every year to have it, but the income is made up in taxes from tourists spending money. Try to get a hotel room during the CWS. If you ask a local business owner they will tell you that it is bad for business when Creighton or NU makes the CWS. Local people don't spend as much as tourists do.The object is to bring outside money into Nebraska to make up for your loss. Like most have said no one wants to travel to Nebraska in Dec/Jan to freeze.
