The Tomorrow War on Prime is really worth a watch. Similar vibe to Independence Day.

Agreed, it was an enjoyable watch.  I picked up a lot of "Edge Of Tomorrow" vibes.  I don't think it was *quite* as good as "Edge Of Tomorrow" but it was pretty close.  Great popcorn movie.

It's taking a beating in reviews, so I've stayed away. But ID4 and Edge of Tomorrow are two of my favorites, so I might have to give it a go.

Started watching Downton Abby.  It's slow and needs a little more action of some kind.  But, for some reason I keep watching it.

It's also frustrating on the number of series on Netflix I have been into but production got cut off because of the pandemic so it's like 2 years before the next season comes out.  This winter I'm going to have a lot of TV to watch.

Right now, I think I'm waiting on:

Black List

Peaky Blinders

Outlander

I'm probably forgetting one or two.

It's got giant plot holes but if you're looking for a decent popcorn flick with good action sequences, you could do much worse.  The fact that I could stream this at home on Prime versus shelling out $15 for tickets + snacks at the theater is great as this falls squarely into the '$5 Tuesday' bucket of movies IMO.

Downton Abbey has one kind of "gripping" plot line, which they took quite a bit of heat over, but otherwise it's a pretty low-key show. It's kind of like soaking in the hot tub after a long day - calm, relaxing, pretty easygoing.

It's basically the opposite of Peaky Blinders.

I'm hoping one day we'll get a Peaky Blinders / Downton Abbey crossover. They're set in the same time period. That would be pretty awesome.

How do you like Outlander? It's a weird show - very much different from where it started. It basically changes entirely every five or six episodes - new locale, new goals for the main characters, etc. Season 5 came out last year, and Netflix has typically been getting new seasons two years after initial release, but I'm wondering if they won't try and pull some strings to get it sooner with the lack of inventory.

Never watched Black List. What's that like?

I really like Outlander.  I think the constant change is great.  You never know where the plot is going to take you.

I started watching Black List because I know the father of the creator.  He's from Kearney.  I really got into it.  As typical, there are some seasons better than others.  The finally of the last season sucked because the did some weird cartoon version since it was right in the middle of the pandemic.  Of the three I listed, it's probably the one I'm anxiously awaiting the least.

If Downton Abby had a little more action and gratuitous nudity/sex scenes, it probably would be better.

Pretty much what xmas said. It’s not going to win any awards but it’s definitely an entertaining popcorn flick.

I don’t understand how it can have “bad” reviews. It is what is. Anybody expecting any more than 1.5 hours of escape viewing should probably avoid it. The only thing I didn’t like was they seemed to rush the ending.

Yes the pandemic has delayed almost all series. But I will say Outlander (one of my wife’s favorites) has always been a bit slow churning out the seasons. So I wouldn’t hold my breath on that one.

BTW, I gave up on Outlander after the episode Jamie was endlessly violated and tortured. We already hated the bad guy, there was absolutely no need to have a whole episode of torture porn. I sort of enjoyed it up to that point.
