SIGNED DT Maliek Collins

Recommended Posts

Plays class 3 in KC. Under the radar type guy, probably because he plays against inferior talent, but as you can see he dominates the talent, as he should. Unofficially visited for the Michigan game. Probably a good sign that he has offers from the home schools. With the bigger class size i would be happy to take a kid like this, and see what he develops into.

I want this kid really bad. He plays with great explosiveness and has good burst out of his stance. Love how he uses his hands. He's really good at not letting the o-line get their hands in his shoulder pads. Would love to see him in scarlet and cream.

Kid definitely has a nasty streak to him that is a great starting point for a DL.

Would love to get him and see what he can turn into. If VV is all he's cracked up to be by the coaches, he'll require a double team, leaving this guy 1v1 with someone if they line up next to each other. Could be fun to watch.

Garrison visited last week and Coach K visited yesterday. Seems to be looking at us pretty hard.

Also an outstanding wrestler - always a good sign for me. Trying to work in a visit around his wrestling schedule.

I had a friend (now deceased) who always said a good sign for a football team (high school level) was to have linemen who wrestled and skill people who ran track. Those big guys learn how to leverage an opponent if they have wrestled. I'm liking this kid more and more.

I really like the looks of this kid! Sure he plays against lower level talent but he has a great motor and finishes with bad intentions. Looks like one of the bad boys of old. He must be very interested since he is visiting around a wrestling tourney. Would love to have this kid "N". Much greater prospect than Miles appears to be.

I only watched the first half of his film and it is impressive how he finishes tackles in the backfield. But what happens when he is actually blocked in college? The first half of the film doesn't show him being blocked one time, he is just running past the o-line and making a tackle. This won't happen in college, so it may be a shock to him when he actually has to get around someone.

Although I'm not a fan of the sport, playing soccer at a young age is also a big plus for any player. The footwork and coordination they learn will translate to any sport.

wow. This guy looks vicious... exactly what you want. In HS he completely owned... everyone. Loks quick, powerful and really aggressive. Love to have this guy.

Agreed Husker T. Soccer translates very well for baseball infielders.

Any word on how his visit is going?

He never made it. He had a wrestling tourney, which he dominated. He says that he will try to reschedule for as soon as possible. But with the holidays upon us, I wouldn't expect to see him here until after the new year.

There is a rumble about him on another site's forum. (nothing I can substantiate though)

It would make sense, given that we obviously aren't loading up on JUCO DTs like we wanted to, that we accept the commit from a HS DT that is interested.

If this guy wants in they will take him.

If we want a DT in this class, we pretty much have to take him. He looks like a decent prospect, with some room to grow and fill out.

Whether he plays against high quality opponents or not, this kid's highlight looks pretty damn good. I would love to see him as a Cornhusker and see what type of player he can grow into.

Looks like a guy that may get in a few scrapes with our OLine in practice. We could use that can of fire on D. And our Oline could use an ass kickin once in a while.

Sounds about right...I count 21 graduating schollys. And I think we are short of 85 by 3-4. So maybe 25 available...plus a couple inevitable transfers.

Do we really have a good shot at this kid? Some say he loves Mizzou, others saying that Nebraska is in the lead. He seems like a project but we can always use more depth at DT.

Yes. There's some chatter that he will commit on his visit in January.

This guy is a freak!! Might be able to play early!! 6-2 almost 300 lbs. 4.8 40. How is this guy not a 4 star?!@$#@%^ Might be the most underrated player I have seen us recruit for a few years!! This is exactly what we should be recruiting. I would like to see some more tape on him

lol, I remember a certain o-lineman in our glory years that had the exact same impression when recruited, meaning "a project", and a certain OL coach admitting that it was his shoe size that led to him being offered a scholarship. If memory serves, said player was relatively successful in the pros. Anyone remember Rob Zatechka? Also, in the same class was Brendan Stai and Zack Weigert whom were also red shirt prospects. I guess those projects all turned out rather nicely, yes?

Just got around to watching this kid's film. Tell you what, he's got a mean streak on him. He really plays with a temper and great leverage.

I see a mean streak as an advantage, even though scouts tend to dislike it. I have even seen people loose stars because of it and it could be the same here, but you have to be aggressive when playing people u can't be afraid to tear someones head off. I don't even care that his composite score with rivals is a 2 star. I seriously doubt at times they know what they are doing these scouting agency's. I see a guy with great size, good speed to get pressure on the QB, and a guy that is very disruptive. With the leverage this guy will get at 6-2 300 lbs. He should be a great run stopper. He has all of the characteristics I would look for in a 5 star DT. Like I said I think this guy is way underrated, and he is one of the best DT's I have seen us recruit since Suh. He might have a big boom or bust tendency, but I think this guy who be great for us. Heard he was leaning Mizzuo I am wondering if that has changed.
