Obviously that was an incredibly pathetic half and, by itself, doesn't give us much reason to be optimistic. But we've come back from big deficits 3 times this year. This game is still very winnable - we start with the ball in the 2nd half. Gotta go get some points. I'm not sure it's the outcome of this game that is trouble us. It's the fact that we aren't getting better. Our defense looks more lost than ever right now. Quote Link to comment

This team just can't get out of its own way. They must have had a 100 yard drive if you just count the positive plays on the first series. They march down the field, yet PSU gets 5 TFL. Defensively, I'm really tired of seeing timeouts on 3rd down. If Bo wants all timeouts to be reserved for the defense....fine....but we better have a hell of a great defense and be an unreal 3rd down defense. We are neither. I'm not a huge observer of Bo's sideline demeanor, but Stafford is a 'veteran' on this team. And he looked to be coming apart at the seams and saying some pretty inflammatory things to his head coach. I'm not in the locker room, and I have no inside information. But when you've got that sort of confrontation happening weekly, I would think it's pretty tough to preach and practice poise as a team. Quote Link to comment

The Duke Posted November 10, 2012 Share Posted November 10, 2012 Second Quarter Impressions: Nebraska is getting out manned on both sides of the ball. If you have to waste 3 defensive timeouts in one quarter it is probably a sign that your defense might just be a little too complicated for 18-22 year old college student athletes. Nebraska would easily be a Top 10 team this year if not for stupid penalties, and careless turnovers. When not one, but TWO defensive players get into your head coach's face in a manner of a few weeks using a number of four letter expletives...that is a sign that everyone is not on the same page inside the locker room. Dare I say a lack of control. Nebraska MUST find a heavy set/power running/play-action pass game when it gets inside an opponent's 10 yard line. Ameer Abdullah has really improved over the last few weeks. Braylon Heard needs to see the ball more. Things I would like to see in the 2nd half: An attacking defensive front seven. STOP giving McGloin time to throw! Use Penn State's defensive line speed against them by running more zone-read options and quick screens. Bring back that QB Counter run game that we used last week against Michigan State. For once could we play one clean half without having a dumb penalty or sloppy ball control. Nebraska is going to have to make a play in special teams to get the crowd back into the game Get back lining up and running right at Penn State with Braylon Heard. Then put Martinez, Abdullah, and Heard in a shotgun split backfield or pistol full house diamond formation to run zone-read and play action passes. Quote Link to comment

flatwaterfan Posted November 10, 2012 Share Posted November 10, 2012 The announcers should of known that when you punt a ball out of bounds the refs must have a clear line of sight down the line to do their triangulation routine. A PSU coach/staff member was blocking their view. That's a problem and why the flag was thrown. Easy call. I also congratulate Tmart on running hard for a couple of those first downs. 14 down is pretty big against PSU. They need to come out and score to get mo on their side. I can't believe how poorly we have covered the TE's on occasion. I hope the DT recruits see how much this defense needs immediate help and that there is playing time there.
