***Naming the Leaker***

Everyone is dying to know the identity of the person who leaked the "Bo Rant" tape to Deadspin.com. Perfectly understandable. But we want to caution members - please do NOT name someone unless or until a credible source has identified that person. Why? Three main reasons. First, we want to protect Huskerboard. Regardless whether Huskerboard could be held liable for a member's post naming an unconfirmed person, we don't want to spend the time and resources defending the board in a lawsuit. We'd much rather use that time and those resources keeping Huskerboard free and running. Second, depending on the facts and circumstances, a member that identifies someone as the leaker could easily find themselves facing a defamation lawsuit. Given the somewhat unstable state of the law, it is entirely possible that we could be forced to provide identifying information, such as your email address or IP address, to a plaintiff. Third, we don't want Huskerboard to be the vehicle that names the WRONG person. The stigma that comes with that could be devestating to an innocent person wrongly named.

 

So, please - if a friend of a friend assures you that Bo's Saltwater Aquarium guy said that the leaker was Bill Callahan (or anyone else), DO NOT post it. The mods will monitor for that, and will remove it, and we will be forced to take action against the member. We'd rather not do that (no matter what knapplc says).

 

Of course, once a credible source - a news organization, the athletic department, etc. - names someone (and it seems inevitable that a name will eventually be released), repeating it on the board will be fine.
