Forde-Yard Dash

We don't have a problem with our talent level in that we have a lot of very solid DI caliber players who are very capable.

The defense is in a bit of a fix for two reasons, mainly. First off, the players that we have are young and, in the ideal circumstance, would not be asked to play just yet. Secondly, we haven't been able to recruit a few DIFFERENCE makers that would make us national contenders. Maybe, with continued recruiting, we will find depth and the young guys we have will turn into difference makers and will play the big roles while the new crop of young guys develop and so on and so on.

Offensively, we aren't as consistent as we could be because we don't have a QB who has played the role that long. Throw out TMart's problems with throwing motion and turnovers and focus on the point that he hasn't been playing QB long enough to disect and read defenses from pre snap on through the play. Still, TMart is a great athlete who kills people with his feet, we have a number of talented players across the board, and, when we can click, we can move it against anybody. The offense, no shocker here, is not the problem. And our specialists, aside from the adventures of Mr. Turner, are just fine too.

In short, find a way to recruit those defensive difference makers (or develop them) and we are going to be back in the national spotlight.

Steroids, eh? Thanks for the little kick in the nuts there Forde, you doosh.

he might be a doosh but he's right on with what he said. although i think that stuff was going on pretty much everywhere back then.

Apparently they just had crappier steroids in Missouri in the 1980s when Forde went there. He's never gotten over the pain of watching his Tigers get beat by Nebraska year in and year out. Every article mentioning the Huskers reeks of angst.

I kept waiting for the rest of the article. Why do the top 10 then single out Nebraska? It was interesting because I'm interested in Nebraska but it didn't make any sense as to why he would choose an out-of-the-top-25, nationally-irrelevant program to throw in.

An attempt to say we won in the 90's because of steroids........

Winning cures all ills. Sadly, the kids we are recruiting now were 2 when we were last relevant. Maybe 4-5 if you count 2001. These kids grew up watching the likes of Callahan and our recent few years of embarrassing losses on national tv. Kids want to go to winning programs or those that will help them get to the next level. Until we start winning, we will have some issues trying to go against tOSU, Michicken in the B1G for those kids as well as other talents in TX, Cali etc.....

I am dumfounded at the level of obsession the national media continues to display pertaining to Nebraska’s recruiting challenges. Why do these people care?

Regarding the steroid comment, I had friends that played for NU during the early 90’s. Steroids use was probably around 20%-30% (my opinion) at NU, which was probably the same at every D1 college football program. So to make that statement in this article was a complete jackass move.

I don't even understand how Nebraska got to be a topic in his article. And listed at #11 to boot....did I miss something? Seems to me the only purpose for having NU in that article was to take the unfounded and baseless steroid potshot that he took. Major douche move if you ask me.

i agree. that nebraska part had no relevancy in that article. what was the corollary? what did he mean by that?

You guys must not be that familiar with Forde. He's earned my disdain with gratuitous Husker bashing over the years. Does this all the time.

Makes me wonder why Husker fans still read his schlock and post it here.

I only made my comment because I thought by bitching about it would feel better. Didn't really help.

Forde is not an idiot, he is just singing the national song against Nebraska.

Remember Nebraska was coming off a national title win over Miami and had DOMINATED its schedule and yet, going into the Fiesta vs. Florida, most of the so called know-it-all types had Nebraska losing.. and not just losing mind you. The Huskers were going to get blown out.

With the team struggling this year, national pundits are tripping over their feet and running into each other in a mad rush to throw dirt on the Huskers and discount the 1990s to the point where any achievements from that era are either unimportant footnotes on history or a major anomolly that is certain never to be repeated.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame can be terrible for years and years and years.... and... the minute they gain momentum....every pundit is talking about the return of Notre Dame majesty.

It makes me ill.

But it's reality. No sense in pretending it's not.
