Becks comments

More and more of these kinds of comments are really starting to suggest to me that this is how they really feel. And that would be sad. But it would also be easy to suggest that it would come full circle to explain how so many times it appears that the team comes out totally flat for a game. Must be hard to get up to play for 90,000 people whom your coaching staff appears to be upset with.

It's upsetting me more and more the more I think about it. Someone wanna pull me off the ledge?

I gotta say, why in the hell would a player or coach have a twitter account unless THEY THEMSELVES were only going to say positive things EVER. Even if someone posts somethng negative????

I think it's stupid.

I've been a big Bo supporter and like beck too. But that comment "who has a good relationship..."

was just plain stupid and insulting. I have a good relationship w the fan base. I betcha guys like Davison and Crouch do too.

I bet Lavonte David does. And Ahman Green.

I bet Will Shields does. I bet Ron Brown does, and Milt Tenipor. I bet the ticket takers do, and the bar owners do. I bet the parking lot owners do. I bet Rex Burkhead and Abdullah do. I bet the secretary does.

Get over youself Beck. We don't really really care who is calling plays. Just call good ones and prevent turnovers and safeties on the goal line.

Don't pass the ball 7 times in a row 4 minutes before half leading to 3 INTs. Do those things and act like YOU want to be here, and I'm sure the fans treatment of you won't matter one bit.

Or, go coach at Cal or KU and enjoy that atmosphere.

Damn, I'm kinda pisssed. Just go win the damn game or put up a great effort and quit worrying about the fans.

That was a moment. +1.

I am not sure that I can say they are acceptable to everyone. To me, I have zero problems with what he has said. I think some of his comments are misguided but not fireable.

Here's the thing. You don't fire Bo specifically for these comments. However, his various douchbaggery episodes combine with not winning enough, and eventually there is just one too many issues. At some point the juice isn't worth the squeeze. I'm not saying that point is now. I'm just saying you don't view all of these things in a vacuum. You view them cumulatively.

I hear you. I still don't have any problem with what he has said. And I think he is winning enough for now. I feel like when you have a coach that wins 9-10 games consistently like he has, it means you are on the cusp of getting better. If he had a couple of 6-7 win seasons sprinkled in, I would question whether he can get the job done. And recruiting is getting better. Maybe not by ranking standards but the talent on the field has vastly improved.

We all have different feelings of Bo. I like him as our coach. I would be happy if he stays/is retained but won't be mad or shed a tear if he leaves/gets let go.

Have you looked at our recruiting class this year?

You are going to have to expand on your question.

Our 2 highest-rated commits (Darlington, Harrison) will never play a down of football at Nebraska. That leaves us with 13, one of those is a kicker. We have some nice commits but you need star power. We are not even being considered by any major prospects. This will be Pelini's worst class yet.

I didn't read through all the comments here. I heard about this on the radio today and I just shook my head as I was going down the road. There's probably a lot of things said to these coaches and their families. To players day in day out, and you know what.....in a place like Nebraska you won't ever convince me that the only people these guys ever hear from is the negative sons of bitches with nothing good to say about them. It's bullsh#t. There are so many people in this huge fan base that have these guys' backs. So many it's insane. IMO there are many who overlook some negative things going on in this program just because they are so devoted to the idea of Nebraska football. This is Nebraska and its always been about family in this state, and this program.

So why, why WHY in the f#*k do these coaches and these players continue to acknowledge these stupid ass people? And I don't mean just acknowledge they exist, I mean they talk about them all the f'ing time. I'm sick of it. Personally, by stating my belief that Bo should be escorted out, I feel like I've been made out to be some fat piece of sh#t, sitting in a recliner with a bucket of wings( I believe that's how Sipple describes us fans). As if all I do is sit around and scream " fire Bo " at the TV during games. f#*k that. It's bullsh#t, and this fan base doesnt deserve to be labeled like that, whether they believe in Bo or not. None os deserve to be surrounded by this swirling sh#t storm all the time.

Now that brings me to the sh#t storm. When in the history of football have we heard so much of this in such a short time. Even in what many would consider a successful period. I mean, we constantly talk about how much love there is in the program. How 9 -10 win seasons are something we are proud of. How these players are brothers and these coaches are like father figures. Boy, for such a happy, loving bunch, I've never heard so much focus on all the hate.. For a guy who doesnt read "the crap" you people write. For players who don't care what the outside world thinks......man oh man it couldn't be clearer to me that story is a fiction. So how about that audio tape? How about this us against the world mentality? Does it seem like these guys focus on all the wrong things to you? It does to me. After the greatest comeback in school history we aren't high fiving and rejoicing. No we're telling the 1% of the fan base to f#*k off cause the days coming when I'm gone, well see ow the f#*k you do. Really? And we wonder why in big moments there seems to be a lack of focus on this team.

I have wavered for a long time about Bo and his position here. But his attitude, his snarling homicidal maniac faces on the sideline, that f'ing tape, and repeated comments just like Becks....it represents a problem. A huge negative culture. Now I will fuel it more because some idiots will read my comments and act like my opinion here matters in their life. Why? If anything I'm typing here affects you and your beliefs, then I'm sorry, you're mentally weak and need to develop some balls. I know words can hurt, I know nobody likes to have their character questioned. I've had my character questioned here on Huskerboard a few times and yes, it pisses me off. Yet, if you believe in what you do, if your focused on taking care of you and what you care about, and you know your intentions are good in this life, then how can some strangers words stray you.

I'm done with it. This entire storm of negativity. I've never seen a fan base this great be painted so badly in all my life as a Husker. I'm telling you, I haven't lived that long, but I've met enough fans, including some here, to know that Nebraska fans just love good football, love winning, and love their Huskers. This devotion to this coach that has brought this culture of such resentment, such a divide of what is usually one of the more unified groups in all of fandom....well I'm tired of it. This isn't about wins and losses this is about a deeper problem and it's getting clearer every day.

A lot of very well stated and cogent, articulate responses in this thread.

For our part, yes, I do think Huskerboard counts as social media. Not in the same way as twitter, but 'the message boards' as a collective play a heavy role in all of this. Are we hurting the team? No, I don't think so. As many have said, this is the big time. There will be scrutiny. There will be dissatisfaction when things aren't going well. Sometimes people go off the rails. Most of the time, not. For the players and the coaches, it's something that simply "comes with the territory." They don't have it easy...but that's not because of how fan X, Y, Z behave. That's because they're playing CFB at the highest level and have a passionate, devoted fanbase behind them -- a fanbase that is the program's greatest asset.

Separately, I would think most Husker fans like to live up to our own standards of class and excellence as fans. It's not just that Nebraska has (and justly so) exorbitant expectations for the team. Nebraska holds its fans to the same standard. Our very stadium exhorts us to live up to that. Through these gates...

This is not an invitation for the fanbase to tear itself apart with accusations and arguments over who's being a bad fan and who isn't. But, as if we needed any reminder, remember what we're supposed to be. Just like the team, we don't always reach it, but the bar is that high.

It's completely fair to criticize the current state of affairs, where the staff's attitude seems unsteady, unhelpful, and even virulent. At the same time, take this as an opportunity to do our own part as well, which has everything to do with Nebraska pride and nothing to do with whomever the current staff or team might be.

Huskerfans are as passionate as they come, That passion is definitely a double-edged sword in the internet era.

You know danimal, that's the thing though. It is a double edged sword, but in the end I think most of them are all "fans". It's just amazing how differently this program is viewed between people close to it, and people not so close. I know this though, for every passionate fan that goes the wrong way with their emotions, there's a thousand passionate Huskers that go the right way. The fact that these players and coaches so frequently acknowledge that small portion of fans that approach things negatively, well, I just don't understand it. I think I know where it comes from though.

And clearly, it's because of the fans and the "uncertainty" around his job.

Honestly, this is just maddening. Bo and this staff have spent to much time making issues to deal with I'm no longer surprised they have no time to teach things like ball control, tackling and discipline.

It's comments like this that bring situations to a head. Pelini is good enough on his own in creating a thin skinned, toxic, us-vs.-everyone atmosphere around the program. You don't have a good relationship with the fans, Beck?

Well, I got news: When you stop needing miracles to beat teams like 7-loss, zero-conference-win Northwestern, or 56-scholarship Penn State; when you stop leading the nation in fumbles year after (after year); when your vaunted, veteran offense (fifty points a game, man, you heard it here first) doesn't go scoreless in the second half of the UCLA meltdown; when you don't implode against doormats like Minnesota, or surrender easily winnable games like MSU because of systemic incompetence; in short, when you start putting a product on the field befitting your salary and position at this university, then you and your players will have a relationship with the fanbase largely free of serious criticism.

Until that day comes, shut. the f*#k. up.

P.S. And don't make me laugh about players "counting down the days" until they're done. Good. Get rid of that cancer. Cut it out now, before the Iowa game. Don't even let those non-hackers put on the jersey. You signed up for big boy football at a big boy program. No, I don't excuse a-hole fans who are out of line, but get real. They exist in every major fanbase of every major program and cannot be avoided. I've seen other message boards in comparable situations: it gets absolutely vile. But CFB is show business. It comes with the territory. When you sign that LOI so you can get the free housing, the free food, the free gear, the free education, and all the perks of being a genuine celebrity with a shot at an NFL career, best brace yourself to handle more emotional storms than random idiots chattering on Twitter.

Preach it brother. Great post. +1

There's a really jaded quality to these guys after a while. You can't live in a fishbowl like they do and expect to have a normal perspective.

It's not a bad thing or a good thing. It's just a reality. Their perspective is very different from ours. They have no idea, and never will, what it's like to sit in those seats for 30 years. Most of us here will never know what it's like to have a locker in that locker room.

As jaded as we get as fans, as disappointed as we are with the "failures" of this team, it's still 8-3 with possibly two more wins to come. And we're still upset about it. This board is full of detractors, complaints and gripes.

Why should the players be different?
