500 Mile Radius

Isn't Bubak our only decommit so far, or am I forgetting someone else?

We also lost a couple guys from the Class of 2015.

They weren't from Nebraska, though, were they?

No. I don't think anyone said they were. Bussey and Reuben Jones are the two I remember decommitting.

I guess when I read this:

Also, they waited until the finished there cross-country recruiting tour before recruiting in Nebraska. That strategy worked to land some of our 2015 signees out of state, but it lead to some decommits, which includes Bubak.

It sounded like he was talking about other Nebraska recruits decommitting, not just all the decommits in general. Maybe I'm reading it wrong.

I don't think Bo every had a Nebraska kid decommit. #RileySucks (sarcasm)

Thats because he recruited very few of them

Nebraska and every other program gets 168 evaluation days — to split up between nine coaches — in the spring. A given prospect can be "evaluated" by two coaches in the spring. Evaluations consist of many things, including, in the states that allow high school spring football practice, watching players in practice settings. But coaches, Gunderson said, look a lot of things about a player.

Each has 18 days or so to evaluate and has to try and see every potential prospect in their recruiting region and every prospect at their position who's not in their region. Gunderson said assistants do a good job of figuring out how they're going to accomplish their game plan.

Interesting because it didn't seem like they really had specific regions last year.

I wonder if they did until they focused in on some guys or if they're changing it up this year.

Maybe it didn't seem like they have regions because they also are in charge of visiting their position prospects? So Stewart will have to swoop through the SE, but then head to Cali for Holmes, Lenior, etc...

Here is a list of all the prospects above .88 who we didn't offer in the 500 mile radius (247 Composite Ratings). Not stating that any of these kids are better than who we offered etc. Was just curious and thought I'd share .88 - .89 is the cusp of being a 4* or above. Obviously a boat load of 3* not listed

I've always wondered why people seem to be so obsessed with the 500 mile radius considering there are a helluva lot more, and better, players outside that radius. Sure, pickup a few gimmes in the radius but, other than a few easier recruiting jobs, wouldn't we be best served going after more and better wherever they may be?

Seems like concentrating on that radius is code for that's the best we can hope for.

To me it builds a brand of Nebraska and that we are the dominant Midwest team. Within that radius you are also dealing with way less high level competition of teams, and kids who are more aware what Nebraska brings to the table. These kids know the cold weather, the scenery, etc etc. You don't build the whole roster around this, but you damn sure nab all the top players in these areas.

Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, South Dakota, Kansas

Now we are trying to bring kids from across the United States and competing with USC, UCLA, Oregon, Arizona St, Stanford, Washington
