Democratic Election Thread

Recommended Posts

BRB, Zoogs and Cornographic both correctly surmised (and science has backed it up) that the strongest predictor for Trump supporters is craving for authoritarian tendencies. I guess I'll just leave our halfway fleshed-out model of his supporters there, for the time being.

Here's CNN story on Mexican immigrants voting against Trump. The biggest takeaway is that naturalization applications jumped 14.5% from June to December.

Ironically, he's led to a spike in the number of people seeking full citizenship. And they're turning out to crush him at the polls.

With a little historical knowledge, not hard to predict or describe current sociopolitical trends. One need not be a sooth sayer to see it. In times a great economic and cultural upheaval, national populations often close the ranks and look toward a "strong man" to put things "back on track", so to speak. Hence Trumpf. Too bad, the angry blue collar workers consistently vote against their best interests. Bernie is the real champion of the working man, not Trump--or any other Repub, FTM.

Nationalistic movements are happening all over Europe at this time for similar reasons.

I don't agree with Bern on much of anything. But, I must say it's fun watching him take major swings at Hillary and landing some.

Seems a lot of people think he won pretty big last night...

I wish he would end a rant with "Don't worry...I will just email it to you"

I agree with you. When I watch Bernie speak, I usually find myself thinking that if a candidate said exactly the opposite of what he says, I'd vote for them.

You're right, the USA is not an oligarchy, a massive redistribution of wealth to the top, the .01%, no, they don't own most of everything, don't keep their $ offshore tax havens, don't pay their fair share, etc. We need more war, more TPP, more minimum wage and child labor, you're right, Bernie is wrong.

I think the term "socialism" is just too taboo for ya..... Plus you're a business owner, it would be sacreligious for you and the genuflexing to profits to vote Dem, let alone "socialist".

Cruz is your guy, he wants to slash and burn everything, like the EPA, HUD, SocSec, you know, more pollution, throw millions of poor and old folk out on the street, while giving more tax breaks to his buddies @ Exxon and Goldman Sachs. Cruz is about as opposite to Bern as anybody, they don't call him "carpet bomb Cruz" for nothing, so you have a candidate right there.

LOL....leave it to you to turn what I thought was being a fairly pro Bernie post into a crap show.

PSsssst.....there's a whole world of reality between the extremes.

Sorry, "I don't agree with Bernie on much of anything", you're right, how could I mistake that for not being pro Bernie.

As to the extremes, well, that's the main gist of Bernie's platform, he's going for the $ at the extreme top, FTMP. Maybe you missed the "millionaire/billionaire/oligarchy" mantra he's been chanting for the last year...

It's ok, you have No-Chance-Kasich to vote for, yer good, lol!

It's hard to tell what Cruz is really going to stand for in office because he's controlled by special interest money. He'll pretty much have to do whatever they tell him to do, which won't benefit the country at all. It will be another 4-8 years of the same crap politics in the white house.

I guess I hadn't paid much attention to the Dem primary, but it's interesting how much Sanders has been beating up on Hillary. He's still behind by a considerable margin, but if he keeps pulling 60-80% of the vote, he could potentially pull it off. It will be interesting to watch down the stretch.

He's come out and point blank said he's gonna cut HUD, the EPA, the IRS(so who's going to process his flat tax?), cut cut cut, except for the military of course. You're right, he's beholden to big oil and Wall St(moreso than Hillary). Hillary will probably end up prez, so, agree, same ol' same ol', pretty much.

She creamed him in the South--Southern Blacks, in particular--which put him in catch up mode. F'ing Southerners. I don't think he can overcome the deficit at this point, NY, CA, Penn, he will at best split down the middle, so he's just not going to be able to make up the pledge delegate deficit, let alone the Supers. Maybe he can keep her below the majority and send it to convention, thats prlly the best chance.
