Teammate with current commit LB William Johnson. Hope they can visit together for the Iowa game. Looks like Kongbo is a late bloomer, but could be a real stud.

Riley talked specifically about JUCO DEs and DBs in his presser today. Made a big point about how you have to be sure it's the right guy. Think that was a shout out?

From Husker Journal:

JOHNATHAN KONGBO, DE, 6-6, 260, ARIZONA WESTERN CC

Kongbo has offers from Arizona, Auburn, Louisville, Mississippi, Nebraska, Oregon State, Tennessee, Washington and a few others. He visited Mississippi October 18th, has a scheduled visit to Auburn November 20th. Would like to visit Nebraska at a later date.

Kongbo was born in South Africa (Congo). Moved to Canada played some football before transferring to Arizona Western CC.

Huskers.

“I know Nebraska has a rich tradition, their program in the past had lots of success. I guess that intrigued me the most.” Kongbo said

“They (Nebr.) just said they needed help rushing the passer. They like what I can do on the field. Like the fact I’m a big kid who can move well, aggressive, and I can get to the quarterback.”

“I actually took a visit to Ole Miss.” He says. “It was a real cool experience first time down south. It was great, I had a great time with the coaches. They need a lot of help on defense.” Kongbo said

“They (Ole Miss.) basically needed someone to come in with a little bit mature out of high school other than freshman.” Kongbo said

“I might, I might.” Deciding whether to visit Alabama. “A school I’m definitely looking into. To see if I can fit in. They like the size I bring and my athletic abilities. I use to hear from Alabama, but the last week or two I haven’t.

Was named the #1 Juco Player in the country by 247.

Auburn is rumored to lead for him but he's up for grabs. Nebraska obviously offers immediate playing time and has a good track record with Juco players, particularly the last Juco DE we just sent to the NFL. Hopefully we can make a run at him.

This guy is good. He looks like he could add ten lbs and move inside and be an incredibly disruptive DT. If he were to remain on the edge, he would have to stay at that same weight.

Mo chandler a big athlete that can man a CB spot would be nice too. Markell safety could all be immediate pt guys. All big needs

Ya, they could. But im pretty excited about some youngsters coming up in the program already in the back on D. Think i might rather have some other good high school players come in rather than jucos. But if they will for sure make us better im good with whoever.

I agree with the young pups but if we want an elite d their are 4 guys on the field we need. 2 d ends and 2 corners. Our young guys were not recruited to be lock down man to man corners. They may be able to fill that role but if we can find a guy or 2 who can play on an island, the rest of our defensive recruiting gets easier. Recruiting needs on defense are 1) corners 2) defensive ends. I remember when riley first was hired he said that corners were worth gold on defense bc the overall value they mean to a defense.

I think Jones and Kalu will both be damn good at CB with some more seasoning. Those two have really gotten better throughout the year. Gerry has not looked good in coverage this year(still think he might be hurt). And Williams should be starting in front of Cockrell. And the kids from Colorado RSing this year i think will be damn good. Then whatever we bring in in next class. I think our DBackfield is gonna get quite a bit better next year if Gerry picks it up, otherwise needs to be next man up.

Hughes visited this morning. Still planning to take OVs to Nebraska and Washington.

Maybe this kid is one who commits on every OV he takes. If so, hopefully we have the last one...

He may not end up at Tennessee but he won't end up here.

Looking at Alabama, Florida State, Washington and Oregon. Visiting Alabama January 15 and one of the others the next weekend.
