Shilique Calhoun: "Dirty play" threw me off at Nebraska

Being what most would consider a "Superstar" player I am sure he feels like he should get a few calls that go his way. Like the superstar BBall player trying to draw the foul and not getting it. He then whines about it.

With all that being said the refs weren't calling holding for what ever reason. There was only one holding in the game. He didn't play real well and he got owed by a RS Freshman tackle and a TE. He has to try and save face some way. I guess?

Did I suddenly stop understanding English? What the hell is he saying here? That a headlock affected him so badly that it threw off his game?

Are you freaking kidding me, Calhoun?

Jordan Westerkamp got his ass ground into the turf all game long. He didn't go cry to the press about how hurt he was, or use that as an excuse for not getting it done. All Westerkamp did was go out and beat that secondary - TWICE - on the game-winning drive. 61 yards on two receptions, and he got bashed on that second reception, really bad. Helmet to the chin (a penalty not called, Shilique). Your boy in the secondary tackled Westerkamp with his arm around Westy's neck, in a headlock.

So he took the rest of the game off, right Shilique? Had an excuse, right?

NOPE.

Westy was back in there on the two-point conversion attempt, diving for the ball. Giving it his all.

And as Westerkamp was taken off the field by the trainers after his umpteenth shot of the game, you know what he did? He pumped his fists to the crowd, saying, "C'mon! We're going to win this!"

Maybe he should have spent his time complaining about an arm around his neck on that tackle.

He just spent his time working.

On the positive side: "Calhoun, who remains a half-sack behind Julian Peterson for No. 2 on the MSU career list, with 24 1/2, after his least impactful game of the season, vowed that he'll respond. He said Nebraska "has a great offensive line" but that MSU's defensive line must "get back there and create havoc."

Yeah, what's this all about? LOL. Maybe somebody should tell our fans. :D

If this is indeed the play, then just wow.....I know it's a bit late but to have something like that bother you the whole game? Maybe his quote was taken out of context

Ha ha! That's awesome. Gates manhandling one of the best DTs in the conference. I don't see where that play is overly dirty. It's a continuation of the play. Gates starts pushing Calhoun to the ground as the runner gets tackled--or just a fraction of a second after the runner goes down. Pushing him to the ground for the second time, that is. Nice!

btw, Is that the play Calhoun got hurt on? If so, that's unfortunate. There's some hard hitting going on in that play. Football is a rough game.

Yeah, that's not a dirty hit. It is the play Joel Heath got hurt on though, so that's why he's saying it was dirty. It looks like a normal effort play to me. But it is too bad Heath got hurt. I never want to see players get hurt.

yeah that one is called finishing the play imo. the headlock? that is called "oops"

I've seen similar plays to this get flagged and when I saw it happen I was actually a bit surprised he got away with it. It was close enough to the play ending that the refs maybe thought it was the continuation of a block. Dirty? I don't think he meant to really hurt him. Late? I can see a real argument for that. The runner is down on the ground right in front of him, so I highly doubt he didn't know the play was over. IMHO he has to be a bitter than that.

The picture he showed was an obvious hold. That happens. If guys are going to get away with holding, they will keep doing it. That is part of the game.

In terms of the injury. The video shown above is a cheap shot. That wasnt finishing off a block, that was blocking a guy after the run was completed when you werent already blocking. I agree, that was a late hit. I dont think it had any intention by Gates to cause any injury. It looks like more of a frustration yet zero intent behind it. The fact his leg was in a weird spot was too bad, but a block like that has little malice but is stupid because that is a fairly easy flag to throw if a ref is paying attention.

I do think those quotes from Calhoun can cause more issues for him in the future because if I am an NFL GM, i am worried if a guy is that easy to get mentally beat down. I would be highly concerned if a play like that can take a guy mentally out of a big game with his team fighting for a national championship run.
