Update per Coach Flood:

Nelson was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick as a precautionary measure, according to coach Kyle Flood. Flood said after the game that Nelson had full movement in his extremities, but teammates understandably were still shaken up by the incident.

Very good to know. I've been wishing my best for him all night.

Exactly, on both accounts.

No one ever wants to see a player injured like that. That nasty bend to his neck when he collided with his team could have been a horrible injury.

True Nebraska fans on display here. Eric, pretty sure was announcing the game. He has a gig on XM/Siris radio with Chris Childers or Braden Gall. He is a great kid/young man. I am sure he was moved during this.

Thank you all for your compassion for the young man. This is only a game, and these kids, for every team, put it on the line for our enjoyment. Giving respect to your opponent only makes you a better team.

Prayers for the young man.

UPDATE: Rutgers issued the following press release on Sunday afternoon: "Derrick was released from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital on Saturday night and walked out of the hospital under his own power."

-------------------------------

Rutgers' disappointing 31-14 loss to Nebraska on Saturday took a backseat to the concern for center Derrick Nelson, who was involved in a scary collision late in the game.

Rutgers coach Kyle Flood said after the game that Nelson had full movement in his extremities and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick as a precaution. On Sunday, Nelson said he is "doing well" via his unverified Twitter account.
