Scouting Penn State

Penn State comes into Saturday’s game with a 12-12 record following a 68-63 win over Indiana on Feb. 6. Under fifth-year coach Pat Chambers, PSU went 9-4 during non-conference action, including a win over DePaul and a one-point loss to Colorado before struggling at times in Big Ten play. PSU’s best road effort came in a nine-point win against Northwestern on Jan. 16 and the win over the Hoosiers.

The Nittany Lions feature a pair of solid scorers in senior Brandon Taylor and sophomore Shep Garner. Taylor leads PSU in both scoring (16.6 ppg) and rebounding (6.2 rpg) while Garner averages 13.6 points and 3.1 assists per game. Payton Banks (10.2 ppg) gives the Nittany Lions a third player in double figures, while PSU rotates 10 players into the game for depth. Garner leads PSU with 48 3-pointers while Taylor has 33 on the season.

In a season of "Must Wins", this certainly qualifies.

4 of the last 6 are winnable and it starts today.

This team has shown a consistent ability to win (often handily) when matched with similarly skilled opponents (especially when not short-handed in the paint).

Will help if Morrow can play.

Need to take care of business today at the vault.

Really odd game. No doubt Watson's 3 before half made a big difference and as well as the fact that PSU had a terrible shooting night (maybe SOME credit to our defense...?); but regardless the Huskers did what they had to do and won solidly.

Interesting that for a large portion of the late first half, we were playing 4 true freshmen and a transfer...............meaning NO One on the court had ever set foot on the Vault floor at this time one year ago, and here we are playing that lineup deep into the conference season. Rather stunning fact I'd suggest.

Also kudo's to Hammond (crowd gave him a short standing O when he checked out) and for Fuller for some scrappy play.

Miles should get some credit for continuing to develop some guys into role players even when they aren't regulars in the rotation.

Successful night all around and well done.

I agree, as it was a good win for the team. Great to see Hammond & Fuller play well. I was disappointed with Webster, as his last 3 games have been less than stellar.
