I don't know if this is still the case, but a couple years ago, I remember listening to a podcast that talked about the culture of college football recruiting versus almost every other sport. It was specifically comparing basketball and football, and how in football, committing to a school really doesn't mean much. Coaches will maintain connections and still try to swipe a recruit if they can. Basketball, on the other hand, doesn't really have to deal with this. You'll see recruits decommit and change schools; but it's not very common, and it's looked down upon, to try and heavily recruit players who are committed.

This is just another shining example of why they need to go to a true offer/acceptance scheme in CFB recruiting. It's absurd that they haven't yet.

This is more of an example of a coach being a complete dipsh*t.

It's both.

Recruiting would "slow down" a lot if they went to a traditional/standard offer and acceptance scheme/paradigm/approach/structure.

It's a bit counterintuitive, but that's what would actually happen. The "non-committable offer" is one of the worst things in CFB recruiting.
