Gun Control

I would be cool with that.  Your gun and ammo gets stolen and is used in a crime, you go to prison for life.  Your gun gets stolen, you get a 30 year sentence, your ammo gets stolen you get a 10 year sentence.

Every gun owner I know tells me how responsible they are, so it should not be an issue.

I asked this in a response, but if your car gets stolen b/c you left your keys in it and it is used in an incident where it kills someone else. Are you partially responsible? Full disclosure I may or may not have a munch of guns and maybe 80% are them are collectors and don't have firing pins. I hate getting into these things teach, but I couldn't help it here ha.

What if you leave keys in a car and it gets stolen? Say it's used in an event that causes a fatality or another crime in some way. Do you hold the person who left their keys in the car partially responsible as well? I'll be 100% honest here, I'm hesitant to get into these discussions b/c I don't enjoy conflict, I ask for my own learning opportunity here and to gather other thoughts.

I think you’re asking good questions.  The way I see it is that a gun has a two purposes.  Shooting targets for recreation and killing things including people.   Therefore there is a great responsibility for safe use and storage.  We lack those severely in our country IMO.

No worries about the bold. That's what P&R is for. Speak your mind.

I get your analogy, but where I think it's different is in the intent of the item. A car is intended for transportation. Guns are intended to kill. I can use a spoon to kill someone, but i don't think we should have more spoon regulation.

I guess I grew up in a community where a gun is used to hunt, which yes kill can be used, but not to harm another individual. It's an interesting discussion. One of my favorite ESPN takes was a friend of mine who played for the huskers discussing guns on espn with someone who grew up with a different view of guns. He played for the Chiefs and that segment happened shortly after the incident in KC.

Well said Decoy. I'm an avid hunter and I'm overly cautious with storage and when it comes to my children and guns. But I also enjoy hunting and collecting of guns. I would suppose this goes into a lot of things where we all feel punished by some things because of lack of responsibility by others.

Qbert was one of my favorite games as a youngster. But nah, it's a tiny little town in Nebraska lol.

The thing is, we can't get rid of guns, because we need people like you to help keep down the deer population, if nothing else. We've eliminated all the natural predators on the plains, so without guns deer herds would be tearing up fields and causing even more accidents in a year.

I think that's why it's important to speak about gun control, and have honest conversations about how that can realistically be managed.

My apologies for not finding the correct way to ask this, but the solution is to hold the person accountable that is being stolen from?

Only in situations of negligence, yes. I think guns come with a sincere amount of responsibility... moreso than just about any other kind of property a citizen can own. That responsibility, in my humble opinion, demands accountability.

If you leave a gun unsecured in your vehicle and it gets stolen, there should be repercussions.

To be clear, I'm not anti-gun. I own them. But I think our citizenry has been given enough opportunities to do the right thing over the years and... we kind of suck at it. That's why I'm in favor of much stiffer gun control overall.

If it weren't for the GOP we could offer them plan B without a prescription and cover it. That and free condoms.

As someone who has put plan B in A LOT of morning coffee, you don't need a prescription, just a quiet garage door and close proximity to a CVS.
