The bottom line to college football is winning. It's always been that way. At the big-time level, saving people is a wonderful ideal, but the number of people saved is usually correlated to their ability to save those in charge.

Since arriving here in December 2014, Williams, the receivers coach from Tulane, has been a dynamic assistant. He's connected with recruits and brought a spotlight to NU's campus in the offseason with a trail of NFL receivers who work out with him. He's a celebrity on social media, a guy with philosophical messages at the ready, a modern-day magnet for young people and their parents. For a head coach and staff trying to acclimate to Nebraska standards on the fly, he's an asset.

For a head coach coming off a 6-7 season and with a potential big-time recruiting class taking shape in 2017, a big asset.

For an athletic director who needs his head coach selection to work out, a big asset.
