By the contrary, I'm not closed-minded, nor am I being smug. I'm merely attempting to challenge some of your beliefs.

As far as what's good or bad policy - the president and his supporters are flatly lying about the crisis on the southern border. The data doesn't support it. I'm not against effectively securing our borders - that is essential. But I'm not going to throw money down the toilet to enact ineffective solutions. The facts don't care about their feelings on the matter. If we're going to address something, we've got to be honest about it and use solutions that work.

@hskerprid  the vast majority here understands the need for a secure border. But, it has to be based on the truth and not lies like the administration has been spewing.

The farther left this country slides the more it no longer even remotely resembles America.

Leftism is not Anti-American. America is diverse, complicated, made up of tons of different ideas and backgrounds and experiences and cultures, and has gone through seasons of being more liberal and more conservative. Frankly, this is maybe the worst way you could have tried to start making a point.

Don't kid yourselves either. Russia is sitting back and enjoying the demise of a once great nation.

I agree. But not because of runaway leftism. Rather, Russia is feeling like they've done a great job because of people saying things like the more left we go the less American we become. Russia is sowing the seeds of extremism, polarization, tribalism and entrenched nastiness or mockery. Conservatives and liberals alike.

When do we become Americans again and realize that overly liberal ideas and overly conservative ideas are not to the answer.

Maybe a step in the right direction would be acknowledging and embracing that liberals are also Americans, and also resemble/represent America? You want us to all unite as Americans, but it seems the implication is that you'll only be happy with it if it's conservative America.

The threat of our southern borders being overwhelmed by those that this country can't support is real.

What our country actually can't support is a reality without illegal immigrants. They prop up and make possible the survival of many of our industries. The day we got rid of all illegal immigrants is the day our economy collapses. The threat is us. It's how we don't value good wages for workers. It's how we build our wealth off the back of unfair labor. It's how we make it so difficult for people to come here that so many see no other choice than to break the rules. If we want to fix immigration and secure our borders, which I am 100% in favor of, we need to start looking at the plank in our eye instead of obsessing over the fake emergencies of someone else's speck.

I'm sure that I'll be chastised by the overwhelming majority of posters here that are liberal Democrats.

I'm not a Democrat, and I'm left of center. Some would call me a liberal. Others call me too conservative. Just so you're aware that it's not just extreme libs who take issue and have disagreement with what you're saying.

Remember this, during WWll America came together in an amazing way. We were all Americans working together. I GUARANTEE that would not happen now. What happened people?

Post WWII was also the most liberal and progressive America has ever been...

Bad policy to you might be agreeable to someone else. But your closed minded reply shows your inability to have a reasonable conversation.

How hard would you say you're trying to have reasonable conversation in this thread? It seems like you're doing the things you're complaining about.

I have no problem with LEGAL immigration. Chain migration is a real and very alarming realization that we need to deal with.

So as a point of clarity @huskerprid are you concerned with chain migration or the threat to our southern border as you referenced in the first post or legal immigration?

This tide will be difficult for the Repubs to turn back.   If they keep moving towards alt right positions they will  push the younger voter more and more

in the opposite direction.  The Repubs are loosing the message with the younger generation.

Illegals bring down the wages of everyone in the trade industries. I work in them and have seen it first hand. I lived in Tucson for many years and saw the deterioration of a city from illegals. The barrio more than quadrupled it's size.

Ok, but that's not their fault. They're just people looking for work like anybody else.

If anything you should be upset at Big Buesiness for exploiting them, thereby driving down your wages and refusing to use things like E-Verify.

I knew Pelosi wasn't much of a leader, but I didn't think she'd pass Republican bills and suck this bad:

If you (or AOC) know how a better bill gets through the Senate after they passed this one with 80 votes, I'd sure love to hear how.

Perhaps we should lay some blame on the Senate instead of just assigning it to Pelosi by default?

I dont know maybe at least trying to fight for your position since you have a majority in the house and getting some of what you want in the bill. Instead they just wanted to go on vacation and gave everything to McConnell that he wanted. Blame should be placed on the entire weak and pathetic corporate dems or mighty moderates as the NYT called them. And it just came out this week that they are using the money to build more detention centers, which they pinky promised they wouldnt. Shocker.

Personally I'm going to lay more blame on the Senate which passed this garbage to the House with 80 votes, but to each their own.

They explain how in that video. Basically push through the House bill which was the same funding but had guarantees on how the money had to be spent. Then get on the news everyday and talk about how the Republicans and Trump won't pass a bill that gets mattresses, blankets, toothpaste, and soap to children. Instead Pelosi pushes her caucus to pass a Republican bill that has nothing but vague promises from the Trump admin about how the money will be spent.

If the Dems want to lose more elections, voting in Republican bills without even a smidgen of compromise is one way to do it. Why did voters even bother turning out in 2018 if the Dems won't even use the majority they were given?

I agree, but the Senate and particularly Schumer being awful doesn't make Pelosi any better.
