This slipped a bit under the radar, but this story is pretty nuts.

 

Trump hired Israeli intelligence services to dig up dirt on Obama diplomats instrumental in the Iran deal, presumably to drag them through the mud to somehow provide justification for withdrawing from the deal.

 

I know we've all become pretty desensitized to his behavior, but hiring foreign intel to investigate Americans is pretty un-American.

So.....the idiot has had at least three world leaders meet with him to convince him not to pull out and this poll pretty much shows where Americans are. 

 

I bet bet he still pulls out because he thinks he’s smarter than everyone else.

Trump & the Republicans are going to start a war in the next few months to try and hold on to Congress and distract everyone from Trump's/the GOP's domestic troubles.

So he's killing the deal.  Why?  Easy answer is:  It was Obama's deal. And the first 18 months of Trump in the White House has been to try & dismantle everything Obama did.  It's stupid & spiteful & no way to run a country, but the Electoral College works the way it does & here we are. 

 

But if it's not as simple as "Obama did it" then what is the reason?  Why go to the absurd lengths of hiring foreign nationals to dig up dirt on the architects of the deal?

Quite a bit, apparently.

 

You sure can't point to Iranian non-compliance. The International Atomic Energy Agency stole that thunder, having consistently verified Iran's compliance with the deal since it went into effect three years ago.

 

(And so has Donald Trump up to this point, by the way.)

 

You can't say our generals hate it. Defense Secretary Mattis and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Marine General Joseph Dunford, have both said publicly they believe Iran is in compliance. In fact, Mattis recently lauded the deal's inspection regime.

 

You can't even say Israeli generals hate it. Israeli Chief of Staff Lt. General Gadi Eisenkot told a reporter from the newspaper Haaretz that, "Right now the agreement, with all its faults, is working and is putting off realization of the Iranian nuclear vision by 10 to 15 years."

 

And you can't blame it on the allies. Every one of the other so-called P5 partners to the deal -- Russia, China, the EU, and the UN -- all have made a similar case, apparently to no avail.

 

In just the last couple weeks, leaders from France, Germany and the United Kingdom have all visited Washington, DC to deliver that message. The British Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, was in town Monday meeting with the new Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

 

Johnson admitted the two talked about the Iran deal but offered no details.

 

So, in the face of all that support for the deal, it looks like someone thought the best way to make it easier for Trump to scuttle the deal was to go after two guys no longer in government.

 

Nothing desperate about that, right?

 

 

 

As BRB showed a few posts up, the American people don't want it killed. Our allies don't want it killed. 

 

Who does killing this deal benefit?

killing the deal benefits iran and their russian and syrian allies.  iran is no longer forced to withhold on their nuclear ambitions.  and syria and russia have another nuclear capable ally in the region.

So I wonder if those same Repubs who say Trump should get a Nobel Peace Prize think this action leads to peace. 

NK and Iran are 'friends'.  We'll see what they do behind the scene to put Trump in his place.
