Trump Foreign Policy

Recommended Posts

Hopped on Twitter and hopped right off after reading some of the quotes from Trump's presser.

It's objectively awesome we got this guy. All credit to the military forces that got this done. But the president relishing in it and the way he's talking about it just reminds me how awful our leader is right now.

Any kneejerk reactions about how this makes him some great Commander-in-Chief or how this is the crown jewel of his amazing foreign policy doctrine are predictably stupid garbage.

Agreed - once he named Russia, Turkey and others prior to acknowleding the men and women on the ground, and the info that was shared over the last 5 weeks by the Kurds I was signed off.  This is good, but I also think it was a Wag The Dog moment awarded to  him from his Russian friends.

He isn't even supposed to have a security clearance, let alone green light the biggest media killing in...a long time.

The nuthouse gets nuttier.

Its crazy. On top of that apparently Turkey uses this information to strong arm Trump? What a mess

Well, that's an interesting read.

I will be very interested to see if any proof comes out about it.  This smells a little like the dossier that supposedly had proof that Trump had Russian hookers peeing all over him.

We never have seen that.

Certainly isn't verified but The Spectator US is considered a reliable source so it has a bit of traction

On October 30, 2016, Michael Cohen received a text from Russian businessman Giorgi Rtskhiladze that said, "Stopped flow of tapes from Russia but not sure if there's anything else. Just so you know . . .. " 10/30/ 16 Text Message, Rtskhiladze to Cohen. Rtskhiladze said "tapes" referred to compromising tapes of Trump rumored to be held by persons associated with the Russian real estate conglomerate Crocus Group, which had helped host the 2013 Miss Universe Pageant in Russia. Rtskhiladze 4/4/ 18 302, at 12. Cohen said he spoke to Trump about the issue after receiving the texts from Rtskhiladze. Cohen 9/12/18 302, at 13. Rtskhiladze said he was told the tapes were fake, but he did not communicate that to Cohen. Rtskhiladze 5/10/ 18 302, at 7.

Mueller Report, Volume II

Interestingly enough, Trump was aware of this (from Russia) before the Steele Dossier was released.

Why would a tape be released when Trump continues to be Putin's puppet?

Dual citizenship families in Mexico gunned down by the cartel.  Trump is ready to go to war (literally) against the cartel.

He practically begs the Mexican president to invite them in.  The Mexican president says this is not a good option.

So should we start a war wt the cartel with an invite from Mexico or will it backfire and become a war on our turf also? :dunno

President Trump on Tuesday offered U.S. assistance as he called on Mexico to “wage war” against the country's murderous drug cartel “monsters” in response to the brutal killing of multiple Americans a day earlier.

“If Mexico needs or requests help in cleaning out these monsters, the United States stands ready, willing & able to get involved and do the job quickly and effectively,” Trump tweeted. “The great new President of Mexico has made this a big issue, but the cartels have become so large and powerful that you sometimes need an army to defeat an army!”

Officials say at least six children and three women, apparently all U.S. citizens living in a community of Americans in Mexico, were gunned down after their convoy came under fire during a daylight ambush Monday. Six children were found alive, five of whom have been taken to hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. One child is currently missing, and authorities are searching the mountainous area on the Sonora-Chihuahua border for the child.

Those attacked were members of the LeBaron family, a well-known American clan who has lived in the community in the northern part of the country for decades, according to The New York Times. The attack targeted citizens who live in a community founded as part of an offshoot of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

"This is the time for Mexico, with the help of the United States, to wage WAR on the drug cartels and wipe them off the face of the earth," Trump tweeted. "We merely await a call from your great new president!"

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador refused that approach, however, saying at a Tuesday news conference, "The worst thing you can have is war."

"We declared war, and it didn't work," Lopez Obrador said, referring to the policies of previous administrations. "That is not an option."

Trump has repeatedly raised concerns about levels of gang violence and drug-related crime in Mexico, particularly as it relates to securing the U.S.-Mexico border. The two countries have stepped up cooperation on that front over the summer, with asylum seekers being returned to Mexico to await hearings, while Mexico has also increased its troop presence on both its northern and southern borders.

Early reports indicated the tragedy could have been a case of mistaken identity, but recent history also raises the possibility the LeBaron family was the intended target: only a decade ago, two members of the family opposed to local drug trafficking groups were kidnapped and murdered, according to the New York Times.

Mexico's federal Department of Security and Citizens' Protection said security forces were reinforced with National Guard, army and state police troops in the area following "the reports about disappearance and aggression against several people." The troops were searching for the missing community members, believed to include 11 children or more.

Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, whose own father was born in a Mormon settlement in Mexico, also extended his condolences for the victims and called for the U.S. to get involved.

I'm going to take my feelings for Trump out of my answer.

I believe the cartel needs to be brought to their knees.  I believe we should commit a large amount of resources to do that.  I believe it should be in concert with other governments, not just in Mexico.  It needs to be in other central American countries also.  A large part of this needs to be aid and helping those governments (like Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala...etc.)

The cartel is a very large and very powerful force that needs to be dealt with.  And....yes...I would suspect that there would be some form of retaliation on our own soil.  They do have some power inside our borders.

Now.....giving that answer, I will bring Trump back in.  This is one reason why him as President is horrible.  He is the WRONG person to do this.  He has cut aid to most/all of these countries.  He has made them our enemies instead of our allies in this battle.  He has demonized large populations instead of the true problem (the cartel).

So......to ultimately answer your question.  Can we wait till someone else is in office?
