This has been a big bone of contention with me for some time. I'm supportive of military and defense spending, and would prefer we always maintain our status as the world's strongest military, but I think we outspend the next 10 countries combined. It's ridiculous, and clearly, it can lead to situations like this. A seemingly necessary project gets greedy and ultimately fails what it set out to do. 2 Link to comment

Over 14 years from the time the competition winner was declared to the plane being operational (with limitations) for the Marine Corp only in 2015, the Airforce in 2016, and Navy in 2019. It wasn't even used in combat until 2018. Just as a reference. We can build a brand new car from concept to the showroom in 2 to 3 years. These things are using radar, cameras, all kinds of sensors for autonomy/collusion avoidance, and other safety equipment. Not to mention the creature comforts you want like like big screens, heated and ventilated seats, wifi, coolers, HUDs, auto diming head lamps, auto wipers, etc. Link to comment

I remember driving around Nebraska listening to G. Gordon Liddy's am talk show, where Liddy and his callers would sign off with dark warnings and reminders to "keep your powder dry." That's when I saw this getting really creepy. Guns and Bibles and the manifest destiny of the white guys in power. So no, rightwing commentators can't force people in a direction they weren't already leaning, but they can and do craft self-serving narratives out of thin air and disburse them to millions. There is zero evidence the 2020 election was rigged, that Antifa was behind the Capitol insurrection, or that AOC and Green Energy are the culprits in the Texas grid disaster, but when right wing think tank consultants huddle up to craft counter-messaging overnight --- and that is what they do -- they are working towards a willfully ignorant America to serve their political purposes. This is a bad time to be that stupid. The thing you have to understand about Rush Limbaugh is that he created an industry out of the flotsam that was talk radio. Rush should be understood as what Sam Walton and Jeff Bezos did with retail, even if you don't share their non-business opinions or like them as individuals. Enhance Posted February 25, 2021 Share Posted February 25, 2021 TBH I've never understood the amount of brain cells and consternation that some conservatives put into the gender debate, particularly those who base their decision on religious convictions. It's incredibly bizarre to accept and follow God's word, be kind to your fellow man, but simultaneously wish to withhold equitable opportunities from people with different gender or sexual identities. None of that stuff really matters. We're all human at the end of the day. This post of mine in the 'What is the future of the Republican party' feels relevant. A lot of Republicans try to appear like they want to give equitable opportunities to all people, but...
