The Republican Utopia

Man hardcore R's lack any semblance of empathy. They're going to be here anyway and yet you'd rather kids not learn?

I suppose the broader population being stupider is a core plank in the GOP platform, though.

It’s funny when posters don’t understand the conversation being had.  I was literally just pointing out why the funding case was being made vs the original poster equating it to US citizen funding for school.   It wasn’t being discussed in that context.

I made no judgment on kids learning or not learning or whether I agrees or not with what Texas is maybe going to try and do.  I was putting the correct context to the story so people didn’t get the wrong impression provided by the original poster.  But you went ahead with your ill-informed comment of “you’d rather kids not learn” to try and conflate things.    What a joke.

It wouldn't be if more people had a conscience IMO.

If we all had a dollar for every time an American b!^@hed about R's and D's but voted for R's and D's anyways... we'd all be billionaires. I regularly and firmly push back against the binarism of our political landscape. It is fundamentally democratic to vote, and it is fundamentally undemocratic to be pigeon-holed into believing you only have two options. That's what our political powers want you to think and people keep buying that stock time and time again even though they have the power to change it.

I don’t think the basic problem is more people needing a conscience. We are being forced to vote for the lesser of two evils. To break that cycle what is truly needed are much better candidates from the two major parties and actually electably viable candidates from 3rd parties. Sorry but a person can’t vote their conscience when someone like Trump is on the ballot and has any chance in hell of getting elected. You have to vote against that as opposed to taking a flyer on somebody with 15% support in the polls. In short, we are effed until the candidates improve immensely.

You're welcome to ignore the myriad of issues that voters care about, but those are all issues that work against the current administration. You're right that economic concerns are the biggest swing factor (which also works against democrats), but all of the things I listed will impact the elections, and you'll see that real soon in the midterms.

You got one thing right, I do ignore the issues that the bats#!t crazy voters care about. It’s probably a mistake but I’m going to keep marginalizing these wastes of air until I die. Stupidity does not deserve a seat at the table.

Now isn’t there some urgent issue of a cabal of cannibals and pedophiles to go tend to. Go.

What message would both try to push?

Biden:  Got rid of Covid, created jobs, helped Ukraine,?

Trump:  Stop inflation, lower gas prices, ( I don't think the wall stuff is really that big of a thing anymore?) and i think the abortion leak hurts him a lot.

I think it's pretty simple:

D: stop the Republicans from creating a fascist state!

R: stop the Democrats from creating a socialist regime!

But Build Back Better can't hold a candle to Build the Wall!  Build the Wall doesn't even have to be literal: it's a rallying cry for anyone who thinks Others are trying to take away their America. Stop the Steal! works the same way, even if a lot of people don't truly believe it

Obamacare never had a catch phrase. Socialized Medicine (bad!) and Death Panels had a lot more traction. "I'm With Her" sounds pretty sad next to Make America Great Again.

COVID has always been a stew of mixed messages. Not even sure of the storylines anymore.

The rule of thumb is whether you were better off four years ago. When I look out at America today, I see an unprecedented dismantling of our Democratic institutions, some incredibly disturbing attempts to rewrite history, a Supreme Court prepared to make minority political decisions, a major political party siding with Russian imperialism, and temporarily higher gas prices.

Since this happened on Joe Biden's watch, am I supposed to go Republican? Or are they actually the f#&%ers who keep stirring up this s#!tshow?

See that is my point.  What makes people think that Trump would win?

I see why he beat Clinton, she is the least likable person ever, it is just her personality.

But I can't see him beating Joe when Joe already beat him.

Of course they are. The problem is the “good” guys want a bunch of things that aren’t real palatable for a whole bunch of voters and they do their own s#!t stirring. And the “bad” guys keep making s#!t worse because they are really good at lying and cheating and disinformation and know all they have to do is blame the Ds. The repubs are real fond of calling people sheep but they themselves are the actual sheep cloaking themselves in contrived fantasies and denying actual facts. Anybody who can tolerate Trump or the vast majority of current radical conservatives has their head so far up their a$$ no amount of common sense or reasoning will help. Critical thought is nonexistent for them.

Personally I’ve had enough of their brain disease. f#&% em.

Trump could win because if you ask "are you better off than you were four years ago?" you can blame Biden for inflation, gas prices, looming war, and and an increasingly divided America, without asking voters to consider what brought it all about. If you're super lazy, you'll throw in Hunter Biden's laptop, as if it means something.

And let's face it: Joe Biden was the pillar of moderation, experience, and Obama nostalgia necessary to defeat Trump, so folks were willing to overlook his age for at least the first term. When that first term is up, he starts looking dangerously old. I have serious doubts whether Kamala Harris could beat Trump or Ron DeSantis.

I'm personally sick of both parties.  It's embarrassing to try to explain to my children why we don't have better candidates running for the most important position in our country and possibly the planet.  Money and corruption abound on both sides.  Someone above had it right, try to vote for the lesser of two evils... or rather the person who markets themselves as such.

The other problem is that the parties we have to choose from that aren't D & R aren't very appealing either. Even as a more libertarian-minded person, I look at the libertarian party and see mostly a clown show, mostly because a lot of libertarians are straight-up anarchist and would rather make a mockery out of politics than actually put forth quality candidates. Although Jorgensen wasn't the worst candidate so I ended up voting gold all the way down the ticket in 2020, including the state positions that were up for election.

What it's going to take for a 3rd party candidate to break through is a really charismatic and marketable person who holds popular views, and is also well-known before running. Who would even fit that bill? Mark Cuban? F that guy IMO.
