Pete compares Berine followers to Trump followers while distancing himself from Berine

Quote

“I think the sense of anger and disaffection that comes from seeing that the numbers are fine, like unemployment’s low, like all that, like you said GDP is growing and yet a lot of neighborhoods and families are living like this recovery never even happened. They’re stuck,” Buttigieg told high school students in in Nashua, N.H.

“It just kind of turns you against the system in general and then you’re more likely to want to vote to blow up the system, which could lead you to somebody like Bernie and it could lead you to somebody like Trump. That’s how we got where we are.”

Buttigieg also tried to draw a distinction between himself and the 77-year-old Democratic socialist from Vermont.

“Part of running for president is you wind up competing with people that you like or appreciated or admired many years back,” he said about Sanders. “I don’t have the same views on everything that he does.”

I agree with him 110%.  I voted Bernie in the primary in 2016 but don't support him at all now.  And looking back I think if he had made it into office we'd have as much acrimony as we do now - just not the criminal element.

No matter which Dem makes it into office, we'll have tons of acrimony - just look at the Obama years. This idea that one of these candidates is going to magically bring the Repubs into the land of reasonable discourse is just nonsense. Pete, Beto, Biden, etc. who keep saying flowery stuff about unity and continue to have no policy plans are just going to give us more of the same hope without change that we've had for decades.

On a side note, I've been coming to the realization that it doesn't matter all that much who the President is. What we really need is a complete overhaul of Congress, especially the Senate. I don't know how realistic it is for the Dems to take control of both houses, but I'd MUCH rather have control of Congress and let Trump remain in office.

The majority leader in both houses of congress have way too much power in regards to what makes it to the floor to get voted on. I realize they need a way to not spend all their time on BS bills but something needs to change. Maybe something like....if a bill passes one house the other has to address it. Take HR1 for example which was designed to address voting right, campaign finance, and lobbying. It passed the House and then the Senate leader simply squashed it without it ever making it to the floor.

Another Dem joins the race -- have you ever heard of Seth Moulton:dunno

Yes I have, he's my house rep.  You might like him TG, he's more GOP -ike than we like up here, and he's especially been on the naughty list since he lead the charge on trying to get Nancy out of the Speaker's job.  There's a bit effort to unseat him here right now, to get a more liberal rep in place.

edit: I think this is just a formality so that he can be considered a viable option for a position in whomever's WH.  He'd love SOS or military based role, and he'd likely be pretty good.  There's some interesting info on him out there.  One of his more admirable efforts has been his work to get translators and others who aid us overseas admission/asylum to the US.

Good info NM.   Yes, I figure this is to get his voice out there for consideration.  I liked the idea in bold.  But, will it pass trump's immigration ban:facepalm:

He's the Mike Riley of the race.

Although, to be fair, I'd never heard of Pete Buttigieg before he entered the race, and I like several of his ideas so far.

Yep, Pete is starting to wear favorably on me.  Wouldn't  believe I would say that 3 years ago but glad I can now.

There are close to 20 in the race now on the Dem side - for some - only to get their ideas into the marketplace even though they may not have a snowball's chance - but into day's multi media  flavor of the day world - anyone can catch on fire and go from virtual unknown dark horse to contender in short time -especially if the money follows their media accent.  Goodness who would have thought Trump would be president when he came down that escalator at Trump tower in 2017.

I wish this wasn't a successful tactic. We don't need 20 Democrats in the race. We need three or four with a realistic shot.
