Trump sending the stormtroopers to Chicago next.

This is bad. Dollars to donuts they're using these forces as an election tactic. But what's really worrisome is this:

I don't Trump or any of the decision-makers in his orbit would bat an eye to send these goon squads out to try to intimidate voters and suppress votes.

I came here to post how far ahead Biden is right now compared to past candidates but I'm fearing more and more it won't matter. Someone has to f#&%ing step up and stop this s#!t NOW or democracy is over in this country.

I'll post it anyway but I'm like 40% sure we're f#&%ed.

I guess I'll play devil's advocate and push back for the other 60% of you...

Biden's actually running a really good campaign. He and his staff understand who he is as a candidate and plan accordingly. Although some tried really hard to convince us his gaffes would doom him, they haven't.  When they happen they burn pretty brightly on social media for a couple hours or at most a news cycle before they burn out. The last notable one was his "you ain't black" comment which he subsequently apologized quickly for and went away very quickly. That was like two months ago.

So they're running a pretty flawless campaign, competing in all the places they should be competing (unlike Clinton).

OTOH you have Trump. People have soured on his approach to the pandemic. He's clearly hoping it just goes away and won't take the steps to actually make it happen. He just now FINALLY, almost half a year later, been convinced to promote the mask wearing experts recommend.

And he can't find any lines of attack that stick against Biden. He keeps switching them up in a desperate hope something gets traction. But poll after poll show his messaging is not sinking in for anyone but his base and more and more people are giving up on him.

More importantly, the type of authoritarian-wannabe type of crap we're seeing recently like gassing protestors and secretive goon squads roaming the country in unmarked cars abducting people are also broadly unpopular. Meaning the more he pulls that type of stuff to force a law-and-order message at us, the more it will backfire.

More and more when I think about it it's hard to see how Trump tunnels out of the hole he's dug himself. He'll probably try to use his stormtroopers to suppress votes and give himself an edge but I truly believe America is fed up with him and won't let it work.

You think the coordinated rioting might be a political tactic?  It pretty much is by definition.

I'm much less concerned about the actions of civilians and much moreso of a corrupt government teetering towards authoritarianism, which ironically conservatives used to oppose. Or rather still do, but only if it's led by Bernie Sanders and his zany band of socialists.

Ahhh...you didn't grow up in the bad parts of Chicago Hahaha.

All kidding aside...I grew up 20 miles from that s#!tty parts of the city...every night the news had murder/shooting stories...EVERY NIGHT.  I just thought that was normal (I was always waiting for the sports segment to come on)...

Then I moved away and realized it is not normal to have 60 shootings and 15 dead over the weekend.

I mean, I am kidding a little bit...but Chicago is different.  Most of you have never actually seen it.  You have seen the fun parts.  I can still remember driving by/though the Robert Taylor Projects years ago, just to see how f#&%ing

scary it was.

Gary Indiana is horrible too...

Also had to play a HS football at East St. Louis Sr High...my god...East St. Louis still might be the worst...but you can buy a house there for about 10K!

Well yeah. Chicago has had a horrible crime problem for a long time. Nobody's disputing that.

But at the same time, are you cool with Trump of all people in charge of paramilitary groups to use as he sees fit?

I sure as hell don't trust him.

The police don't even go to the South side anymore (well, they do, but their response times are, well, looooong) and that isn't even the worst area anymore.

My guess...if you live there and you were a "good guy" you would be thrilled.  If you lived there and you were a "bad guy" you would hate it.  That is all I know.

I don't know what the answer is in that area.  I don't think anyone does.

I'm just as concerned with 3000 tyrants one mile away

The line is that Chicago is actually two cities run by one government.
