I watched Biden's speech. He didn't propose any policy. It was exactly what I thought it'd be: platitudes and Trump/Repubs are bad.

I have strong feelings of deja vu from 2004 and 2016. I hope the anti-Trump vote is enough to carry Biden, but I'm starting to think he'll perform just like Hillary: lead during the summer, fade to a slim lead during fall, and then win the popular vote but lose the election. I hope I'm wrong, but I've seen the Dems botch this before.

There is one hell of a lot of difference between Joe and Hillary.

I did too, that’s how I listed the other things the talked about other than Trump. Now you’re moving the goalposts and want all of his detailed policies in a 20-minute speech? C’mon man, go to his website.

Trump out today pushing a lie that is effortlessly disproven - that Dems didn't use "God" in their Pledge of Allegience during their convention - trying to maintain his tenuous mantle as the religious candidate.

The entire premise that Trump is some kind of godly president elected by divine intervention has always been absurd and weird to me. Once you get past the naked transactionalism of judge and lip service, the man's entire life has been and continues to be one of apostasy and hedonism.

I hope Biden hits him on it in the debates. A devout practicing Catholic doesn't need lectured on being a heathen by a man just recently ordered to pay the court fees of the pornstar he cheated on his wife with and paid off to hush up.

He didn't propose any policy.

"With modern roads, bridges, highways, broadband, ports and airports as a new foundation for economic growth. With pipes that transport clean water to every community. With 5 million new manufacturing and technology jobs so the future is made in America."

"With a health care system that lowers premiums, deductibles, and drug prices by building on the Affordable Care Act he's trying to rip away."

"With an education system that trains our people for the best jobs of the 21st century, where cost doesn't prevent young people from going to college, and student debt doesn't crush them when they get out."

"With child care and elder care that make it possible for parents to go to work and for the elderly to stay in their homes with dignity."

"With an immigration system that powers our economy and reflects our values. With newly empowered labor unions. With equal pay for women. With rising wages you can raise a family on. Yes, we're going to do more than praise our essential workers. We're finally going to pay them."

"We can, and we will, deal with climate change. It's not only a crisis, it's an enormous opportunity. An opportunity for America to lead the world in clean energy and create millions of new good-paying jobs in the process."

"And we can pay for these investments by ending loopholes and the president's $1.3 trillion tax giveaway to the wealthiest 1 percent and the biggest, most profitable corporations, some of which pay no tax at all."

"Because we don't need a tax code that rewards wealth more than it rewards work. I'm not looking to punish anyone. Far from it. But it's long past time the wealthiest people and the biggest corporations in this country paid their fair share."

"For our seniors, Social Security is a sacred obligation, a sacred promise made. The current president is threatening to break that promise. He's proposing to eliminate the tax that pays for almost half of Social Security without any way of making up for that lost revenue."

"I will not let it happen. If I'm your president, we're going to protect Social Security and Medicare. You have my word."

A lot of that isn’t policy. It’s just things he’s promising. But I feel like policy is more what debates are for. And as someone else pointed out it’s on his website.

Like Climate Change is the only thing on that list that wouldn't have been in a speech from 100 years ago.  Okay so the Ds are playing it safe and trying to run a Generic Democrat as their candidate.  It kinda reminds me of the John Kerry NOT-BUSH campaign.

It's very much like the John Kerry NOT-BUSH campaign. And a lot like the Hillary Clinton NOT TRUMP campaign. And yeah, anyone with the standard cliche playbook could have written those speeches in a couple hours, without doing a lick of homework.

Venture a guess what the Republicans will hammer to death, conveniently ignore, and provide no coherent policy for next week? That's a no-brainer, too.

Having reviewed Kanye West's platform, I don't think he's a legitimate alternative.

All that aside, it's still a really clear choice.

Actually am fine with Biden at this time.  I'm speaking about friends of mine that aren't.  I still respect their right to choose 3rd party and will not think poorly of them if they vote their conscience.

Anyone who trashes them for doing so is undemocratic in my opinion.

I have friends like that, too. I respect their right, but don't really respect the logic. Voting is about exercising your power. In an election this crucial, a third party vote simply gives your power away. That needs to weigh on your conscience, too.

The time to start a third party is now, building a platform and candidates up and down the halls of government, so that when you come to a Presidential election, your choice is real and not symbolic. I may love the concepts of peace and freedom, but the Peace & Freedom candidate (Gloria LaRiva again, fwiw) would be horrified to actually have the job, doesn't really have a workable plan, and would quickly get eaten alive by the process. That's the problem with most protest votes: you really don't want the person you're voting for to become President.

Or you can try to push one of the two major parties to your wing. You can be disappointed when the center holds, but you can't be shocked. You may be voting -- or not voting -- your conscience, but you won't be teaching anyone a lesson.

The few progressives I know threatening not to vote for Biden have apparently found higher ground than Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Noam Chomsky, Shaun King, and others they've supported, followed, and enthusiastically re-tweeted. I take comfort that there can't be that many of them, but I certainly hope they maintain their energy and integrity to build a legitimate third party in the off-season.

Policy =/= Platitudes.

Biden may just as well stated his plan for puppies and apple pie.

Oh did the far right doctor news footage on 10,000 outlets at once?

https://youtu.be/5F5iVLFARF8

lol......the muslim caucus and the LGTQ caucuses didn't recite it.   and those were not broadcast on the convention.   there were many caucuses and those 2 did not recite those words.   but every night during the convention the words were there when the pledge was recited.   but i am sure trump will make sure it is in his convention then he will go and break all 10 commandments within 24 hours.
