Do you believe black parents are treated the same as white parents at traffic stops?  Do you believe black people are treated the same as white people in the judicial system? Do you believe they are looked upon the same way at job interviews?  Do you believe young black mothers have the same safety nets young white mothers do?  Do you believe the average black child is afforded the same youth experience as the average white child?

If you answered yes, I could see your point.  But, I know you don't believe any of the above.  There is "baggage" in the homes of minorities that "white" homes don't carry.  Not a fault of them generally, but of our "system".  You believe this, I've seen you post about it.  Biden doesn't place the blame on the parents, although he does recognize the need for help.

You can cry about racism that will never go away, or combat the effects of racism that will never away.  Only one of those options is productive.

Yeah, none of that is what Biden said though. Take a look at the question he was asked and then his answer.

I don't know how you can listen to that word salad from Biden and come up with it being racist. That seems like a preconceived notion that the tweeter is looking for confirmation of.

However, that was an appalling lack of focus and mental acuity from Biden. I have not watched any of the debates or really listened to any of the candidates this far away from the election, but hooooo boy does he sound like a mental mess.

That's his biggest problem. I don't think he's racist at all, but he has done all of his work in an era much different from today, and he hasn't really mastered the proper way to talk about these things. I don't necessarily mean being "politically correct" all the time, but the nature of the dialogue and the language we use when it comes to race and civil rights is a hell of a lot different than it was in the 70s. Hell, he even stated that Obama was articulate for a black man back before the 08 election.

He's prone to stumbling over his words and making stupid gaffes anyway, and so when he talks about serious social issues, even though he has a lot of actual experience with that kind of work back in the day, he still sounds like an idiot.

For civil rights and other social issues, the words we use are important, and if you can't talk about these things without saying something stupid or unintentionally offensive, than you are not capable of being the leader we need.

I don't think he is racist, but he is certainly prejudiced and thinks a certain way about people of color. He hasn't broken out of the mindet he had in the 70's. It's not malicious, but comments like the one made last night and the comment about Obama show his preconcieved notions about people of color. Again, that isn't overtly racist, but at the same time its not not racist. Coming from a different time is no excuse, Bernie remembers that time too.

Good points. You're right, coming from a different time is no excuse, but it also helps to understand where his mind is. I mean, everyone has their own biases that we may not even be aware of, but Biden needs to do a better of job of identifying and facing his biases.

I get a sense from Biden (and a lot of what came from the civil rights era of the 60s and 70s) that there was a lot of "white knight syndrome" toward minorities, a desire to rescue them, which while trying to be helpful, also does not create equality. If he thinks he is a hero to save minorities, he still essentially puts himself on a different level than everyone else. You can't move forward if you are still stuck in the past.

I still think Biden's lead in the polls is based on little more than name recognition, and his connection with the Obama administration. Hopefully as we get closer to the primaries, voters will understand that electing Biden does not bring Obama back. We can't go back to that past.

Yup - I think Yang is an i interesting guy but he has no place in this race.  That move is desparate, and I believe it violates the law for campaigns (not sure if it falls under finance but I read an interview about how he wanted to do this before the first debate and they had to pull back because of confusion on where the money could come from - check or cash - traceable etc)

This guy didn't answer the question and stuck his foot in his mouth with his insinuation that black families 'need help'.  I know of plenty of black families that need NO social workers and need NO help he's talking about.  What a moron he is.

Generally speaking, black families do need help and have it far worse off with far less net worth and far greater chance of kids having one or zero parents and no access to satisfactory public education. That you know black people who are successful and healthy doesn't disprove a general truth, just like me knowing poor disadvantaged white people doesn't dispel the ideas of white privilege.

Anyways, that's all besides the biggest point which is that Biden can barely figure out where he is.

The actual definition? https://www.google.com/search?q=racism+definition&oq=racism+definition&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l3.7762j1j7&client=ms-android-verizon&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8

You can be prejudiced and not racist. Its not typical but it is possible. As for Biden, its probabably subtle racism.

If every newsroom had a Krystal Ball in it we wouldnt have so many blind sheep in this country. What a breath of fresh air.

That Socialist Sucks author mentions 'getting drunk' 2x in the first minute of his interview - by the looks of the cabinet behind him, I'm thinking he is drunk most of the time. :cheers:wasted

I agree that Biden not being sharp is a big concern, but what he said was definitely racist. When asked about his stance on reparations, he instead pivots to saying that black parents need help raising their kids. I don't know what else to draw from that.

I'm not of the camp who believes every ham handed promise to help disadvantaged POC is racist.
