This seems to be a big knock on Sanders but I have to ask, who has gone through that scrutiny? Biden would be the closest but I would have to think most of the focus was on Obama. Really none of the candidates have faced GOP scrutiny or oppo research or whatever you want to call it that people are saying Sanders has never gone up against. I think they are all susceptible to attacks. Trump will hammer on socialist Bernie, socialist Warren who he will also attack on the Native American thing,  sleepy creepy corrupt Joe. They will all face their unfair share of smears

This is true, there will be muck flung at whomever the nominee is. However, historically, there's quite a bit of evidence that the charge someone is too far left will stick better than other attacks if they are legitimately perceived to be too far left.

This has several caveats, though. Some think we're past the point of no return and we should just toss out all conventional political knowledge. The other obvious question is how big you think the group of "he's too far left" people is. They're out there. @BIGREDIOWAN is not alone.

My personal opinion like I said lol. To me he's too far left. Your independents and Republicans that are looking to jump ship to get Trump out tend to think Bernie is, for lack of better terms, a tad crazy. I'm an independent that registered democratic to take part in the caucus. I've voted for both parties for president in the past. I won't vote for Warren or Sanders just because I personally feel they're too left for my taste. JMO

“Too far left” is such a vague statement. Which policies do you disagree with and why?

Btw every single poll shows that Sanders, Yang and Gabbard do the best with independents.

Might be a vague statement, but that's my opinion, not really interested in breaking down his policies and getting into that discussion. I have my reasons just not motivated to type it all up via phone. Lol

And there were numerous people at the caucus that said they were only there to try and keep Bernie and Warren out of the democratic nomination seat. I've not met one independent that supports Bernie or Warren. Yang and Gabbard aren't even viable options at this point.

I’m an independent. Bernie and Warren are my favorites out of the candidates.

And he still won 6,000 more votes than anyone else lol. Get out of your bubble and talk to a Bernie supporter to see why they support him. You might learn something.

For example, myself. Im in healthcare. I saw a 40 year old with three young kids be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer crying after his insurance company denied him coverage. He told me privately while crying he now has to decide whether to fight and financially ruin his family or die young and leave behind three young kids. That gets to you and it opens your eyes to other peoples sufferings.

I do not agree with wiping out student debt, how's that possible? The money needs to come from somewhere we can't just miracle it out of the sky. Both Warren and Bernie just say "we'll wipe it out"......uhhh....ooookay?! I mean that's great and all, but how? And in my experience Bernie supporters are pushy as hell and I saw it first hand on caucus night. So that turns me off real quick to their candidate.

Nevermind both Warren and Bernie along with Biden have had some negative thoughts and comments towards law enforcement over the years.  I won't support any candidate that does that no matter their policies. Want to "reform" the criminal justice system and ensure its fair I'm on board with that, but don't try and drag cops through the mud at the same time. And there are things that I see personally in my career field, just like you, that are just as important to me. Mental health is just one example of many that needs addressed.

Bernie proposes a transactional tax on wall street brokers that would theoretically raise 2 trillion over 10 years. The collective student debt currently is 1.6 trillion. On top of the transaction tax, eliminating student loans would spur the economy because it would put a few extra hundred dollars a month into consumer pockets which they would likely spend.

Canceling student debt would be amazing for the economy. As ive said before, when middle class people have money they spend it. When rich get tax cuts they hoard it.

Student debt would be canceled through a 0.25% tax on wall street speculation. Which means if you are not a high frequency trader than it doesnt affect you. Not only has Bernie said this a million times, it is also on his website. Its important to do research especially if you dont know the answer, seek out the answer.

Bernie, along with other democrats, have spoken out against bad cops. As should you as a cop. The bad ones make you look bad and you should speak out against them. They are also against the manufacturing of bullet proof vest penetrating bullets which the NRA and republicans are not against. Tell me, why would someone need a bullet that can penetrate a bullet proof vest?

As to your last point, desperate people are pushy. Im sure many of those people cant afford healthcare and have diseases. Im sure some have gone bankrupt. Im sure some cant afford college and a good job. Im sure some are drowning with student debt and cant declare bankruptcy like you can with other debt. Like I said, maybe you should talk to them and see why they are so “pushy”.

I get it, you support Bernie, I don't and won't, pretty simple, no hard feelings. Calling out bad cops is fine, painting us all with a broad brush and saying racism is rampant in law enforcement is not only untrue and reckless, but is just flat out bulls#!t. So that makes me not even want to look into his policies or Warren's policies. In theory any policy sounds amazing on paper, but the proof is in the execution of those policies.

I think the too far left thing will have an effect, but there are other things in play here as has been discussed in the odds thread. Sanders may be 'too far left' yet he appeals to conservatives and independents anyway. With the division going on at the moment, being less of an establishment Democrat may cancel out with being too far left for some.

Not sure how that plays out among true blue Democrats though as many of those people despise Sanders. Will they vote for him anyway if he is the nominee?

May not be the place but I strongly disagree that it is untrue. There is certainly an issue and it is systematic

Glad you have an open mind and will do whatever you can to get Trump out of office.

Youre right, Bernie and Yang are the only ones I like. I dont like Buttigieg one bit. I think he is a corporate robot. All you have to do is go back a year and listen to him compared to now. But id still vote for him in a heartbeat over Trump because I hate the fact that kids are being locked in cages as we speak.

I've been thinking this will come down to Biden and Bernie, but Biden is self-destructing in a big way. Buttigieg, Warren, and Klobuchar will be eliminated on Super Tuesday, So it's Bernie and... Bloomberg, I guess? It's looking more and more like Bernie might run away with the nomination.
