The Courts under Trump - Mega Thread

They'd already decided in advance that getting a conservative majority on the Court was worth any price. A pervasive quality to the GOP at this point is they elevate getting and holding power above everything else to the point of being pathological for them and screwing over anyone who tries to get in their way. It's poetic justice that they picked such a garbage human being as Kavanaugh that would blow up in their face nationally like this. Republicans themselves have sure rallied behind him, but everyone else pretty unanimously thinks this guy shouldn't be on the Court.

But sounds like McConnell wants a vote this Friday. I think this saga is about to wrap itself up. I think the best we can hope for at this point is that Roberts takes the institutional reputation of the Court seriously enough to not let it turn into judicial arm of the Republican Party AND they get destroyed at midterms and in 2020 in response to ignoring or acting outright hostile to the majority of the country. And for overreaching. And for utterly lacking accountability and oversight. There's any number of reasons the GOP deserves to get wiped out in November.

I guess it’s a good thing that Democrats are noble and honorable and always play by the rules and think of the country first.

Dear Lord.

There have now been seven.. still no corroboration. Ford’s ‘witnesses’ all but said she’s nuts.

There's been several republican senate run that were obviously a formality designed to look at nothing and push their man through.  Then there's been the FBI "investigation" that was limited in scope to a few people surrounding two of the 3 accusers, without any questioning of Kavanaugh or Ford, or other accusers or people happy to detail his lying to the senate.  These were investigations in the same way a banana republic would investigate,  "Ohh we looked almost nowhere, and we found nothing.  Big surprise, now shut up peasant and move along."  The US is as corrupt as any third world country at this point, lead by people that don't even care to hide it anymore, because they know they have 1/3rd of the electorate that will blindly support them and only seem to get more energized the worse they show themselves to be.

You’re just parroting what you’re reading online. Kavanaugh and Ford already testified at length and under oath. There is nothing more to be learned from them. Ford’s alleged witnesses have said they have no idea what she’s talking about. Debbie Ramirez was, as recently as a couple of weeks ago, calling friends to see if they remembered who pulled his pants down at a party and whether it might have been Breet Kavanaugh. Julie Swetnick’s claims are insane and she has a history that indicates she may have some issues.

There is simply no THERE THERE. There’s no evidence to support any of these allegations. PERIOD.

Hopefully all of those shrieking protestors have something else to do now that their campaign to have an innocent man punished for a crime he didn’t commit has failed.

I watched it, he testified at length by dodging the democratic senator's questions as he raged at them like a teenager caught in a lie inbetween republican senators disingenuously decrying the process that was a farce because of their own "investigation," long before that day, and then fellatiating him instead of asking questions.

LOL, parroting Ric?  we've been over that many times before.

Not one of those Dems had an open mind or was considering voting for him. Booker had called anyone who voted for him complicit with evil. Feinstein buried the Ford letter and allegations for weeks, even as she met with Kavanaugh, in order to try to sink his nomination. Every single Dem on that committee had openly and loudly proclaimed they would do everything in their power to stop him.

They were falsely accusing him of being a sexual predator and gang rapist.

How seriously was he supposed to take those idiots?

Probably as seriously as any decent person would take senators in a hearing in front of a separate and equal branch of the government that he's basically interviewing for a job with.  To be clear though none of them outright accused him of anything during questioning, and even before the questions had started he came out directing rage at them and blaming "the Clintons."  Which everyone seems to now be an agent of the Clintons if they don't bend the knees for the Donald or want to see an actual process that isn't influenced by people in the senate and whitehouse holding their thumbs on the scales wile pushing for the confirmation as fast as possible so nobody looks behind the curtain.

How many job interviews do you go into with people who have already said you are evil, they will never hire you, and they suspect you may be a sexual predator and/or a gang rapist.

Looks like he got the job though. And telling the half of the panel what a bunch of evil, nasty, pieces of trash they are helped to secure the votes he needed.

MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN....INDEED...

Gloat all you want, but that isn't something to be proud of, tomorrow they'll delegitimized the court in over half the country's eyes.  That was the last part of the government that people still had a reasonable amount of faith in.  It'll be a bad day for this country on balance.

Congrats on sticking it to us though.

The Dems tried to falsely label a good man and qualified judge as a sexual predator and gang rapist. They did so despite knowing it was complete nonsense, because they disagree with him about political issues. They did so despite no evidence suggesting he was guilty and ever- more evidence the women making the allegations were wrong...or even lying.

And they failed. The good man won. The shrieking idiot protestors who care nothing about the rule of law and destroying a good man lost.

Who delegitimized the court again?

If he's all those things, then there was absolutely no reason for republicans to restrict who the FBI could contact or what they could look at in a follow up investigation to clear his name.  He might've been falsely accused, but we'll never know, and republicans doing that made sure that he'll forever have an asterisk by his name and half the country will view him as a drunk frat boy, attempted rapist, liar, and partisan political operative.  At best only one of those things *might* not be true.

Read and learn.

methodical’s homework

The idea that the FBI should interview dozens or even hundreds more people, when they have already talked to the principals and there is not even a hint that ANY of the allegations are true, is ridiculous.

Why not talk to everyone either of them went to high school with? How about everyone they dated? Why not talk to everyone either of them has ever worked with or lied near? Where does this ridiculous charade end?

Do I really need to explain to you what evidence is? Or what a complete lack of it means?

Theres evidence Kavanaugh perjured himself during the hearing. Thats all I need to say he does not belong on the highest court in the land. If you don't hold the same standard, you don't care about the direction of this country.

What evidence? And since when does evidence even matter? I thought the new standard was if you cry and seem sincere, evidence becomes irrelevant and we're just supposed to believe anything you say.

I'm watching half the county ready to cast Kavanaugh as guilty without a shred of evidence to prove it and despite growing evidence his accuser is simply wrong. And I'm wondering what the **** happened to due process.

Susan Collins was the hero today. That was a hell of a speech. Kudos to her.
