teachercd
Sinister...if you really want a cool/dark horror type movie...watch Sinister. It is really well done If you want to go really graphic, almost all the Korean Horror films are amazing for that stuff. Quote Link to comment
The Dude
The first half of Insidious was fantastic, I was so disappointed with the second half. Kind of the same deal with Sinister. It was really great and creepy until Spoiler We see Baghull, and the ghost kids show up. It just killed all the tension for me. I didn't really get into The Babadook. I've heard tons of great things about it though, so it's still on my list. Quote Link to comment
Moiraine
I liked the movie. It made me think of how grateful I am to be alive now and living in America. I think we all lucked out. "In the 17th century, people believed that witchcraft was practiced by women who had rejected God and made a pact with evil spirits. From 1484, when Pope Innocent VIII declared witchcraft a heresy, until 1750, historians believe that nearly 200,000 people across Europe were burned as witches." 200k back then... that's a lot of people burning to death. My problem with Sinister is Spoiler I have a tough time watching torturous murder scenes and, in particular, kids getting killed. That's why I've never liked The Hills Have Eyes, Saw, Hostel, etc. Quote Link to comment

Hostel just seemed like torture porn for the sake of torture porn. Beyond that it's just a nonsense movie with rubbish characters. Saw had some decent crime/mystery elements and some clever ideas, and that ending was great, but the hokey acting held it back. And not the good kind of hokey acting like in the Evil Dead trilogy. I can't really talk about The Hills Have Eyes without mentioning the original. One of the all-time great cult classics. The remake was alright I thought. One of the best and most f'd up extreme horror movies I've seen is Martyrs (2008). Don't watch it if you have a tough time with that stuff. So f'd up. Quote Link to comment

The 2nd half to a lot of horror movies ruin it for me because they get too out of hand and unrealistic. The first half of It Follows was very good to me, then it took a turn into terrible. teachercd
It follows is good but it seems like a movie that ran out of gas. Danny the Dog Boy...turned into "Unleashed" with Jet Li. Quote Link to comment
Redux
Torture Porn movies are the absolute worst. There are a few I have seen that just stay with you to the effect that it's incredibly regrettable you watched it in the first place. The top of that list is Spoiler Guinea Pig Series: Flower of Flesh and Blood Don't watch it. Don't even click to reveal the name. I only included it because if someone else has seen it I hope they agree with me. Quote Link to comment

Enhance
Yeah, I hate torture porn, torture in general, sexual assault, etc., all that kind of stuff in movies. I understand the value of it as a literary tool or narrative piece and I can process it much easier in books because I don't have the visual component (i.e. The Kite Runner and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.) That's why I probably won't see the movie Detroit. Not that it's 'torture porn,' but I've heard it's incredibly difficult to watch and one of those movies that you see it once and call it good. I'm not usually into movies for that kind of experience even if they're well made movies. Quote Link to comment

Watching an actual surgery would be easier to sit through Quote Link to comment

It's a low budget, campy horror flick but I liked it. I don't really expect supernatural movies to be realistic. I just think a lot of them would be better served leaving more to the imagination. Especially if you don't have the money and/or effects talent to pull off something awesome. I was really into Insidious until Spoiler they revealed the demon as a Darth Maul knockoff. Nothing scary about a guy with makeup and contact lenses. Quote Link to comment
