If we beat Ohio State

Recommended Posts

The notion is laughable, and I don't see any remote chance of it happening, but if we do beat Ohio State, it would be classic Riley.

At Oregon State, he had this strange pattern of leading a string of clunkers, and bookending it with an inexplocable head scratching win against. Ranked team he had no business beating. He did this at USC's expense several times.

Good thing today is Wednesday so the Ohio State game is almost here and the Riley supporters (not saying OP is) will no longer have the talking points of "but what if we beat," "but what if we beat," etc. Those are desperate talking points for people who are afraid of making change. Change happens all of the time in sports and business. Just today a MLB team fired a top level employee for losing in the playoffs for the second year in a row. And people are afraid of firing Riley because of two losing sesons out of three (which is going to happen)? Crazyness. Who cares if a couple of recruits leave. You want a good head coach so you win games in the future and good recruits in the future will come.

Well, stranger things have happened.  In the first couple of games, Ohio State did have one of the worst pass defenses in the country.  If Lee can keep the passes going to our guys rather than the other guys, we could keep it respectable.  Given the weapons Ohio State has, I'd say for us to win we'd have to win a shootout.  I don't see our defense being all that successful against JT Barrett and company.

Nebraska has as much chance of beating Ohio State as they did beating Michigan State in 2015.

I disagree.

tOSU has already lost a game.  Meyer still wants the playoffs.  He won't let his guys lose focus like D'Antonio did in '15.

I think we have a better chance at a patented Riley upset against PSU.

Serious question. How much better do you think your 3-4 defense is than Maryland's? OSU attacked the edge very hard and was very successful doing so against Maryland. I don't think that OSU will have that kind of success vs Nebraska but I do think they will win the game. I think Dobbins and/or Webber along with Campbell should have big games.

OSU lost a starting Olineman to a broken leg for the season last week and will be without a CB for the first half of the game vs Nebraska due to a targeting penalty. The Buckeyes are still a team trying to find itself but they are getting better each week and I don't think they are the same team that lost to Oklahoma week 2. I think they are finally starting to see some WRs emerge in the red zone which is something that hasn't happened in the last couple years.

JT Barrett gets a lot of crap from OSU fans but I think 98% of the teams in CFB would love to have them as their QB. He isn't Aaron Rodgers and he never will be but that is OK.

Things can happen.  I'd be pleasantly surprised and a lot of people making bets would have a terrible Saturday.  I've never picked against the Huskers in our informal office pool, so I'd look like a friggen football genius, just like back in 2015.  Of course, I'm at the bottom of the pool for being such a pollyanna.  My hopes we make a bowl game would go up by 25% at least.
