All those lucky poor folks that don't make enough money in a year to have a tax burden.

people make choices that determine these things dont they? I think if anyone has to pay everyone should have to pay, maybe not the same amount but something. I am a big fan of the individual I guess....not even sure why I posted as I know the democratic utopia has zero to do with any of my political viewpoints minus legalization of weed and the government getting out of peoples bedrooms and not caring if people are gay etc and letting the individual make that decision.

We all pay the same amount on the first step, then the second, then the third, and so on.  You pay just as much taxes on your first $10,000 as the person that only makes $10000 the entire year.

I am interested in why any eye rolling here? People wouldnt prefer to not pay income taxes?

I'm not an infamous eyeroller, and while I'm not fond of paying income taxes, I understand the need.  I want roads, I want military, I want teachers etc.    Unless they can figure out a realistic universal sales tax I'm OK paying income tax to fund necessities

if we only used our income tax for necessities I would agree with you. The issue is we dont. The link below is just some of the stupid crap we waste money on. Other examples such as spending $357k on how cocaine impacts the sexual behavior of quails....is that what you want ANY of your tax dollars going?

Does the government waste money on some dumb stuff? Most definitely. But the items called out in that article only account for approximately 0.0007% of our total budget. Until we make some major changes to the biggest pieces of the pie (military, healthcare, etc.) we aren't going to accomplish a whole lot in terms of balancing the budget, reducing the deficit, etc.

I would like to cut military spending exponentially as well as stop foreign aid and use those funds here. You give your kid a $100 bucks, he spends part of it on meth and the rest on vegetables. Are you happy or sad? I simply want to slash spending massively, set term limits for all elected officials, get rid of lobbyist etc.

Listen to the 'Congressional Dish' podcast.   To hear what they are spending money on, how much money is going overseas and the purpose and how it's hidden from the public, it's infuriating.

a flat sales tax forces everyone to contribute to our government instead of most paying none. Depends on what you consider "fair" I suppose. I prefer giving the individual the ability to decide what they purchase etc instead of being forced to pay end of discussion.

This just switches it around so that the poor and middle classes pay most and the rich and ultra-rich pay almost none. The reason is because counter-intuitively money doesn't have the same value depending on how much you have. Here's video with a simple example:

I understand the whole concept but did you really have to pick an AOC lead off video? Like I have said in the last few post I am not opposed to taxes. I just believe that we can get a heckuva lot more bang for our buck while also being under budget each year compared to whatever the hell we are doing now. Until we figure out how to be a responsible country I dont want them to have a penny of my money

I never understood people being excited about tax returns.  If you got a $4,000 return at the end of the year, it means that you were over taxed that whole time and didn't get to use that money they way you wanted all year.

I would rather have had the $4k to invest each month or something.

There are some people who actually use this as a savings about (sort of) and then they think when they get that big check back, they have money to spend.  It's really pretty stupid.
