nic
Dems only shot at anything is to pass the Infrastructure bill as written. Its a bipartisan bill the progressives are holding hostage. The social spending bill is toast. The only way it passes is for vulnerable and moderate Dems to fall on their sword and retire in 2022. It may happen anyway so it's a reasonable play. https://www.cnn.com/2021/11/05/politics/nancy-pelosi-joe-biden-state-of-play-november-5/index.html 1 Link to comment

Extreme weather accounted for 9.4% of all deaths globally between 2000 and 2019, according to researchers who on Wednesday published the first study linking changes in temperatures to annual increases in mortality. 1 2 Link to comment

nic
I am not sure how to comment on this. Woke was 'cool' and frustrating all at the same time. Sometimes nonsensical. Certainly overused. Now its a political liability. Link to comment
nic
Labor based grading because our grading system is racist. Why is meritocracy a bad thing? If a student can do exceptional and correct work in half the time I will hired them first. https://www.foxnews.com/us/arizona-state-professor-white-language-supremacy-labor-based-grading 2 Link to comment

We don’t start at the same place but it’s the only race in the world where someone can surpass another even when they have a 90 meter head start in a 100 meter race. 1 1 Link to comment

Okay, but that's rarely if ever solely due to merit. 1 Link to comment

Lots of opportunities are offered because of who you know or how much money you have that is for sure. Old boy network....if that phrase is still OK to say. I have problems with initiatives like getting rid of advanced math classes in early grades like they did I Virginia. Making tests easier. Getting rid of grading. Why hold everyone back? We are competing with the world in addition to each other. Let’s not dumb down the education. Do better to provide equal opportunities and may the best person win. In the system proposed by this prof someone could put in lots of effort and still not get the material. It’s like a participation trophy. I am ok with my kids failing and learning from it, and if someone starts 20 meters back and succeeds.....what a great story. Link to comment
