Winning the war and negotiating the peace are not mutually exclusive.

Actually they are, if you understand that Putin was never going to give up his imperialistic ambitions for Ukraine until he got his a$$ waxed.  A negotiated peace with Putin would never last.  His goal has always been and always will be to either subjugate the Ukrainians or wipe them off the face of the earth.  The Ukrainians are united in their cause.  It's not that hard to understand.

Again, a lot of assumptions here. You don't make peace with invaders because they're good guys you can trust. It's to minimize the death and destruction and to setup a lasting peace afterwards. Sometimes you have to keep fighting until the other side capitulates, but peace negotiations can be happening at the same time. You don't have to stop the war to negotiate and you don't have to stop negotiating to continue the war - you can do both. And just because the Ukrainians are negotiating with Russia doesn't mean they have to accept any deal that they're offered either.

Remember when the Republicans were telling us they'd cut off funding to Ukraine? That sure seems like it would help our enemy, Russia.

And now Russia admits they held off announcing their Kherson defeat because it might help the Democrats. Sure seems like we should be thinking critically about why one of our political parties has such intertwining interests with our enemy, Russia.
