seaofred92
Any thoughts who the new hire will be? I know he won't be the coach but I'd love to see them try to get Andy Roddick involved with the program somehow. Known Nebraska fan was born in the state. http://www.omaha.com/sports/q-a-with-andy-roddick/article_9c040524-78ea-55f0-802a-637d6509968c.html Quote Q: Are you as still as big of a Husker fan as ever, or has living in Texas turned you into a Longhorn? A: I just follow it (Texas football) because it’s on. I follow all sports. I wouldn’t say I’m kind of religiously available on weekends. I’ve been a Husker fan since I was a kid. That won’t change. Has come back for a few tennis events as well. Would be cool if we could figure out a way to somehow get him involved in the program. 1 Quote Link to comment
seaofred92
... and he's obviously a smart guy: Quote Q: What do you know about the new coach, Mike Riley? A: I’ve heard that he is a really nice guy. Beyond that, it was an interesting hire. I, like anyone else who covers Nebraska, at least wanted to get an interview with Scott Frost. It seems like a decision that was made pretty quickly, which I guess is a good thing. They thought they had their guy with Riley. I’m curious how it translates from Oregon State to Lincoln. 3 Quote Link to comment

seaofred92
https://www.omaha.com/huskers/plus/new-husker-tennis-coach-sean-maymi-has-helped-turn-around/article_4cd05c81-6cb9-5fd6-922e-6e53bea1c539.html Quote Sean Maymi has seen it before. A tennis program looking to regain its mojo. Four years ago, Nebraska’s new men’s tennis coach was working at a junior training center in Maryland when Adam Steinberg called. After Maymi spent a few years away, Steinberg, the new coach at Michigan, wanted Maymi back in Ann Arbor to help rebuild the program. “Four years later, we were 14th in the country and really feel like we had two guys who could be All-Americans this year, and it felt like we gained some ground,” Maymi said. “Nebraska is in a similar situation. A team that wasn’t ranked, that didn’t make the tournament, and I felt like I had just gone through all that and I had the experience to help turn it around.” Maymi was hired by Athletic Director Bill Moos in June and will take over a program that has plateaued. Nebraska finished 11-15, including 1-10 in the Big Ten in 2017-18. The Huskers were 5-19 the previous season. The program hasn’t finished higher than eighth since its first season in the Big Ten six years ago. I'm all N on Coach Maymi! Welcome! 1 Quote Link to comment
seaofred92
https://www.tennisrecruiting.net/list.asp?id=1199 Huskers landed a good looking prospect from California: Andre Saleh rated #57 nationally. 19-6 record including 10-6 vs Blue Chip, Five Star, and Four star players. Should be a nice building block for Coach Maymi to work with going forward. http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=211780766 3 Quote Link to comment

Coach Maymi landed a nice class last year in 2019, however 2020 was a bit of a disappointment as we only have unranked Iskandar Karimov from Uzbekistan coming in. Huskers finished 2-10 (0-1) in coach Maymi’s second season at the helm with the only wins being a 7-0 sweep of UMKC at home and a 4-3 win over UTSA on the road. We were surprisingly competitive against a good SMU team losing 3-4 but outside of that the top teams we played pretty much worked us. Quote Link to comment

teachercd
I would think being a college tennis coach is a dream job for most of these tennis guys (assuming they don't make it on the tour), the pay is good, the expectations are small/low and you still get to do what you love. Quote Link to comment
