One Reason Why Troy Will Win
Really, how healthy is Adrian Martinez? After the leg-twisting issue against Colorado, the star Husker quarterback has a banged up knee, and with Michigan coming up next, the offense needs him healthy for the trip. It needs him for this week, but it’s hardly as important. With top backup Tristan Gebbia leaving for Oregon State, Andrew Bunch will play a big role now. No matter who’s under center, the aggressive Troy defensive front will get into the backfield to come up with its share of big stops. For all of Troy’s issues early on, the defense has come up with takeaways, and the run defense has been fantastic – even against Boise State.
One Reason Why Nebraska Will Win
It’s only one game, but the Nebraska defense all of a sudden looked far tougher and played far more aggressively. It was able to generate seven sacks and 12 tackles for loss against Colorado, and that should be the norm. The Trojan offensive front has been just okay so far, and it’s about to be under siege. The result? The downfield passing game isn’t there, and keeping the chains moving has been an issue. On the other side, no matter who’s running the Husker offense, the pop will still be there. Martinez might have led the team in rushing against the Buffs, but Greg Bell came up with a big performance, too, tearing off 104 yards on 13 carries. He can carry the O for stretches if he has to.

What’s Going To Happen
The Nebraska D will give up big plays this year, but it’s not going to happen this week. The light hasn’t turned on yet for the Trojans. They might not be the killer they were last season, and the offensive backfield still needs time to gel, but they’re still going to be dangerous. The Huskers are going to make this a wee bit scary for a while, and then they’ll take over in the second half to give Scott Frost his first win. It’s not going to be smooth sailing, but it’ll be a victory.

Nebraska accumulated 329 rushing yards against Colorado and that trend is likely to continue, especially if Andrew Bunch steps in at quarterback on Saturday. Look for Greg Bell and Devine Ozigbo to get the lion’s share of the carries with Maurice Washington being given the chance to show off his speed a few times yet again. Martinez went 15-of-20 last weekend and it seems safe to assume that the Huskers’ starting quarterback will stick to that 17-23 attempt range versus Troy. Don’t forget, Nebraska has tremendous receivers who will get every opportunity to make big plays happen whether or not Martinez is on the bench. The Trojans have plenty of offensive firepower, so we should expect quarterback Kaleb Barker to mirror some of the same success Colorado’s Steven Montez did, especially if he finds wide receiver Deondre Douglas in the same manner as Montez did Laviska Shenault Jr. However, barring another comedy of turnovers, this should be Scott Frost’s first win at Nebraska.
