2018 Game 4 “Expert” Picks: Purdue @ Nebraska

One Reason Why Purdue Will Win
Nebraska might have a slew of problems, but the most stunning has been its inability to move the ball. The offense was supposed to be fun, exciting, and fast, but it can’t keep the chains moving, it’s not generating first downs, and it’s been nonexistent too many times on third downs, converting a mere 32% of its chances. The Purdue defense has turned into a decent surprise, overcoming a slew of big changes and personnel losses to do be solid against the run and do a great job at getting off the field. The Boilermakers are second among all Big Ten teams in third downs allowed – teams are converting just 30% of the time. Meanwhile, the passing game has gone off, with David Blough throwing for close to 900 yards with six scores over the last two weeks. He’s generating lots and lots of big plays. Nebraska isn’t.
One Reason Why Nebraska Will Win
It didn’t show up at Michigan, but the Husker pass rush has been one of the few bright spots so far. The Purdue passing game might be working just fine, but the pass protection has been spotty. To save the struggling offense, the Big Red D has to do its part to get to Blough and get off the field. For all of the problems and all of the concerns and all of the issues, Nebraska really is really close to being 2-1. It battled with Troy, and the Colorado game came down to the final moments. Forget about the Michigan game – the Wolverines are playing too well right now – but there really is the potential to crank up an explosive element to the attack. It’s going to be a process for star quarterback prospect Adrian Martinez, but he’s got the receivers to keep up in a shootout. Now the passing game has to start clicking.
What’s Going To Happen
Yeah, Nebraska is close to going 2-1, but Purdue is close to being 4-0. This is a strong Boilermaker team that figured out its passing game, while Nebraska is still trying to find something that consistently works. The Husker offense will show up, but the secondary won’t be able to do enough against a red hot Purdue attack.

So the collegefootballnews.com article says:

Yeah, Nebraska is close to going 2-1, but Purdue is close to being 4-0.

I don't think the "Purdue is close to being 4-0" thing has a whole lot of weight. Boston College threw four interceptions and then recovered two fumbles and went -2 in the turnover margin. If they hadn't thrown all of those interceptions I'm not sure they lose that game to Purdue.

Purdue's defense gave up 40 points to Missouri.

I probably wouldn't classify Purdue as a team "that is close to being 4-0." But no doubt, their quarterback is really good and our secondary is going to get bullied. Martinez will need to light it up and help put points on the board for us to win.
