Jesus. This is just in the last couple of weeks.  Read this thread.

If the right is willing to blame Obama for "increased" violence and  intolerance against police officers, then they had better be giving Trump his due for this mess.

Terrorist Who Allegedly Killed 51 People in New Zealand Gets Letter Published to 4Chan From Jail

Tarrant also goes into his political views, citing Plato’s The Republic, Richard Dawkins’s “idea of cultural evolution by memetics,” and Carl G. Jung’s “views on inherited racial conscious [sic].” He also cites Oswald Mosley, a British fascist who founded the Blackshirts in England during the 1930s and supported Adolf Hitler. Mosley is an incredibly popular figure on the far right, especially in the U.S. and Australia.

“I cannot go into any great detail about regrets or feeling as the guards will confiscate my letter if I do (to use as evidence),” Tarrant writes. “But I can tell you I have no concern about myself and I only worry for Europe’s future.”

“Europe’s future,” is likely a reference to immigration by anyone who isn’t white. Tarrant’s manifesto, which is now banned from distribution in New Zealand, explicitly referred to immigration, made numerous references to internet culture, and called President Donald Trump a, “symbol of renewed white identity.”

In regards to my post above and the smiley face response, I'll provide a bit of backup to the fascist twitter post.  My comments are in RED below:

While of course, the list below isn't a reflection on where are as a nation now - we aren't the Germany or Italy of the 1930s but when one looks closely, one can see the seeds of it.

The seeds of fascism can be seen in Trump's language, policies and actions.

Political scientist Dr. Lawrence Britt recently wrote an article about fascism ("Fascism Anyone?," Free Inquiry, Spring 2003, page 20). Studying the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia), and Pinochet (Chile), Dr. Britt found they all had 14 elements in common. He calls these the identifying characteristics of fascism. The excerpt is in accordance with the magazine's policy.

The 14 characteristics are:

  1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism
Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.    This is a central theme of the Trump admin.  From border wall, to military parades, MAGA, using the American Flag as a prop every chance they get.  This admin is all about nationalism.     https://www.salon.com/2019/07/16/trump-believes-white-nationalism-is-a-winning-strategy-because-fox-news-tells-him-so/
  2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights
Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.  While the Trump admin isn't in the same catagory as those fascist regimes of last century, we see seeds of this in his boarder policy, his calling out of people of color, etc.    https://civilrights.org/trump-rollbacks/
  3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause
The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.    Immigrants are the boggy men of this admin.  How often have we heard the 'threat of the border' or the threat of illegal immigration.

  4. Supremacy of the Military
Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.  Here Trump has prioritize the spending for the military while cutting back on domestic spending.  He's launched the Space Force.     https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/01/us/politics/trump-tanks-july-4th.html
  5. Rampant Sexism
The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.    Do I need to say anything here?  Trump's personal life is also seen in his rhetoric.   https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ1118939.pdf
  6. Controlled Mass Media
Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.  Why do you think the most common phrase of the Trump admin is  FAKE NEWS?  It is to squash the influence of the press and by so doing control it and the narrative.      https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/06/fake-news-republicans-democrats/591211/
  7. Obsession with National Security
Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.  Again  - border wall, border wall, boarder wall.  Fear the immigrant, fear the immigrant, fear the immigrant.  Say it enough times and people start believing.  This is how he got elected    https://www.politico.com/story/2019/01/23/trump-border-wall-immigration-hawks-1121835
  8. Religion and Government are Intertwined
Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.     Oh my and oh so sadly this is clearly seen. Do you think TWO Corinthians really cares about true faith - the guy who said he never had to ask forgiveness??  Trump needed the Evangelical vote to win, he promised pro-live actions, he got their vote and now he keeps playing them until he doesn't need them any longer.    https://www.salon.com/2019/07/08/former-evangelical-republican-warns-the-religious-rights-support-of-trump-will-harm-christianity_partner/
  9. Corporate Power is Protected
The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.    Tax cuts, economic policies basically helps the big business interests.     https://www.newyorker.com/news/john-cassidy/the-real-trump-agenda-helping-big-business
  10. Labor Power is Suppressed
Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed .   He wants to strip the govt labor union of much of its power and he weakens worker rights..    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/03/opinion/trump-worker-safety-osha.html      https://democracyjournal.org/briefing-book/trump-taking-us-back-in-time-on-labor-rights/
  11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts
Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts.   Trump and the arts are like water and oil.  Trump embraces unscientific climate views.  He may be up to the 4th grade level in reading if one can follow his speaking.  Again he will attack anyone in academia, the arts who does not agree with him.  https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/15/arts/nea-neh-endowments-trump.html
  12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment
Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.  He states he is the most law and order, police supporting president ever.  https://www.vox.com/mischiefs-of-faction/2018/7/9/17550116/trump-tweet-law-and-order
  13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption
Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.    How many of his family members work in his admin.  How much time does he spend at his company properties,??  https://www.thenation.com/article/the-magnitude-of-trumps-cronyism-is-off-the-charts-even-for-washington/                  https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/04/moore-and-cain-nominations-reach-new-level-cronyism/586831/
  14. Fraudulent Elections
Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.   Do we need to say Russia anyone?   We'll see what happens in 2020.  Trump tried to get the nationality question into the census to try to control those who can vote.
