Saunders
2018 Game 6 “Expert” Picks: Nebraska @ Northwestern ————— CollegeFootballNews.com https://collegefootballnews.com/2018/10/nebraska-vs-northwestern-fearless-prediction-game-preview-2 One Reason Why Nebraska Will Win Look past the 0-5 start. There are a whole lot of good things happening, and it stars with the passing game. Adrian Martinez is getting better by the week, coming off his injury and his horrendous game against Michigan to throw for 323 yards against Purdue and connect for 384 against Wisconsin. He’s been great, but he’s getting help for the best 1-2 receiving punch outside of anything Ohio State can throw out there. Stanley Morgan has been fantastic, and JD Speilman is playing at an All-Big Ten level over the last few weeks, catching ten passes against Purdue and lighting up the Badgers for 209 yards. There’s firepower on this Husker team. There’s little on Northwestern. There’s no running game for the Wildcats now without Jeremy Larkin, and while the O line has been okay, it’s going to have a problem against a Nebraska defensive front that’s outstanding at getting behind the line. One Reason Why Northwestern Will Win There’s the Clayton Thorson we’ve been waiting for. After being a big off in the first two games, he turned it loose in the loss to Akron, and hit Michigan State for 373 yards, connecting on 31-of-47 passes with a whole slew of big plays. The Nebraska pass rush has been okay, but the secondary was hit hard by Purdue’s David Blough, and Colorado’s Steven Montez there for 351 yards. Thorson is going to throw at least 45 times, and he’ll open it up. Best of all for Northwestern, it can count on Nebraska imploding. There’s almost never a good time for a penalty, but the Huskers have a wonderful way of crushing momentum with an ill-timed flag. No one gets flagged more. The Huskers have committed ten penalties or more in every game – ENOUGH with the hands to the face calls, guys. Northwestern? It’s No. 1 in America in fewest penalties committed. What’s Going To Happen Nebraska is really, really, really close to breaking through. It’s not going to have much fun against the tough teams with the great running games, but it can hang around with the passing teams. But this is the week it’ll finally happen. Northwestern has won both its road games, lost all of its three of its home games. That’s just a quirk, but it’s about to continue. For one game, Nebraska won’t commit double-digit penalties, Martinez will make enough plays in the second half to get ahead, and Thorson will turn it over twice to seal Scott Frost’s first win. Honestly, until these kids can show that they can win, no one will pick them to win anything going forward.* *This may also include our game against Bethune-Cookman. Yeah, that's how bad being in a losing rut can get. 1 1 Quote Link to comment

I personally think we’ll win this one...but only if our O-Line quits playing Olaf with the opposing defenses. Quote Link to comment

Redux
We play them better on the road historically, and that even goes for "Poisoned by Mike Riley" teams. We got this, chalk up the first win of the Frost era (halfway through the effing season...) Quote Link to comment
