I'd trade one of those for a Broyles Award nominee for Special Teams.

Didn't Diaco win the Broyles?

He sure did, in 2012.

I wouldn't say that diminishes the value of the award, however.  I mean, Adolf Hitler was TIME magazine's Person of the Year in 1938.  My point is, sometimes they make poor decisions because of all the strain associated with the decision! ;)

If the criteria is bad a$$ stogie wielding then coach Verdu is a shoe-in.:B)

Does anybody else think that 53 nominees is leaving the door a little too wide open?

Come on, man. Diaco was no Hitler.

Hitler actually blitzed too often.

I don't know this for an absolute fact but I would guess the football term "blitz"  originated from the blitzkrieg. That Hitler, what a defensive innovator.

Which is weird since most people thought he was offensive.

Yeah, but the Person of the Year doesn’t necessarily go to the best person, just the person who had the largest effect on the year.

By comparison, Diaco very well could have won it last year.

An interesting twist to this story is that Verduzco gets to finish the year facing two of his fellow nominees:

  • Phil Parker, Iowa: Defensive coordinator, secondary
  • Mike Tressel, Michigan State: Defensive coordinator, linebackers

I suspect Mario is an alien.  I don't have any proof but if you've seen the movie "They Live" you might agree.  I have no problem with it if he can keep the QBs playing at a high level.  If he has a defensive genius relative I'd welcome them to earth too.
