The world economy collapsed because a deregulated U.S. financial industry was blinded by profit motives.

So you'd prefer people who aren't categorically against regulation, and don't hold profit as the singular reward in life.

If you actually look at the Economist which tends to skew more to the Left, they have cited many faults to the world financial collapse including Central Banks throughout Europe along with changes in savings habits in Asia which pushed down global interest rates.  Hence the reason it was deemed a world financial collapse, not a US financial collapse.   I do agree that members of both parties dating back to the 1990s helped contribute to change with Freddie and Fannie that caused the housing collapse in the US.

Well the regulations that were enacted by Obama in prior years WOULD have an effect in later quarters.  Moreover, I was an Econ major, and it's true that there are natural economic/business cycles where economies expand and contract.  Fiscal and monetary policy along with the regulatory environment are a few things that the government/Fed can do to influence those natural economic cycles.  Raising taxes and regulations or the Federal Funds rate are all things that will SLOW economic growth and cause an economy to collapse.  Lowering taxes and regulations are things that would stimulate the economy and alter the normal economic cycle to bring about economic growth and other facets that can result from GDP growth.

trump promised to have the budget balanced in 2 years.   last month our debt increased over $100 billion.   economics seems to have failed this adminstration.  we are living high on the hog and passing the cost on to our future right now.  when the economy is high is when you try to pay down debt....right?

As I said before, both parties have not done enough to combat the growing national debt.  Reforms to entitlements are needed, but Republicans are afraid to push too hard for fear of facing a political backlash, and Dems like these programs as it aligns with their beliefs about socialism and redistribution.  I would fully support cuts to Defense if we could also get long-term cuts to entitlements.

You are delusional. The economic results and positive outcomes being set now are a direct result of Trumps pro-growth policies. Stop pretending that this is a result of Obamas actions as he did not cut the corporate tax rate and he added to regulations and did not reduce them.  You can continue to make up stories to make yourself feel good...you certainly have a right to do that!

Political debate can occur without insults. This is a reminder to direct comments about the post not the poster.

Hey that's fair...do I contact you when I have such comments directed at me too?  I have been called racist and other things in here before since I support Trump.  Just want to ensure this is being applied consistently.

Absolutely. If you find yourself or another HB member is the target of insults, feel free to bring those posts to the attention of the mod team. In fact, I was just going to post this post below as something that is insulting (though not necessary directed at any one person).

Great thanks.  You might become my new best friend. So would posts suggesting Trump supporters are racists or homophobic or anything of that nature be a good example as well?

Report any post you feel compelled to along with a what you perceive as the violation of board rules. The mod team will review all cases submitted. The political forum is only a small part of Huskerboard, so we appreciate member feedback when it is provided.

I am not sure there are many things worse to call someone that racist.  I take that as a very serious topic.  Calling someone angry or mean-spirited or lacking compassion (as many claim about Conservatives) is one thing...calling them racist takes it to a new level I believe.

Ok Thanks Tom....and Moraine, my apologies if my comment was over the top.
